Randy Gregory Deployed for Destruction

I agree with you there. I might could go with a 3rd as I feel it will be at the bottom of the round but like a 4th much better. We are deep at DE and receiver perhaps a conditional 5th with a couple of players, barring Thomas resigns with us.

We have ONE good DE and thats it. Deep at receiver? Are you talking about the Dallas Cowboys or someone else?

Unless Gregory gets hurt or suspended, he's on the team.

I think it’s foolish to believe that at this point. He is a huge risk and roster spots are precious. A promising young player will have to be cut to keep him and we have no idea right now what kind of shape he is in and whether or not he will be better than any of the other DEs on the roster. I’m not saying he won’t make the team just that it’s far from a certainty.

One good DE...... Guess you mean elite with Lawrence. The others are all solid and have potential. Can't keep them all. And same thing with receiver, tons of guys that can make someone's roster.

I never said those guys would bring first round talent. Tapper and let's say Lenoir for example and decent young pieces that we can't keep anyways. Granted Tapper hasn't stayed healthy and Lenoir has showed some decent play in preseason, but Seattle is rebuilding. Especially on defense, throw in a draft pick or two and maybe they bite. Maybe not.

Elite for sure. The rest are either average and are nothing but projects.

"make someones roster" "have potential" You dont win championships with these kinds of guys.

Show me these teams sitting around the league with 3-4 elite pass rushers on the same team. I'll save you some time and go ahead and tell you that you wont be able to. Most teams are 1 elite guy with pretty good to okay guys around them

Bull crap.

Our d-line will be better than what the Patriots have had in recent years.

-Irving will be back after four. He had as high a sack rate per game played as just about anyone.
-Gregory can be a force
-Lawrence is top four DE in the league
-And we’ve got young lions behind them

Seattle isn't winning championships, they are rebuilding

We can play the maybe game til the cows come home, but we didn't spend a 2nd on Gregory with the risk of him not making the field just to cut him when he can.

Jaylon is the only young unproven player with arguably more promise than Gregory. We have the rights to Gregory for 3 years. We're not cutting him if he comes in weighing 300.

Get as many as you can get buddy. Stop with your low standard nonsense. We have ONE elite pass rusher that has done if for one year. We need DT's, DE's, Safeties, corners, linebackers, ect....ect....

Then you are being unrealistically pessimistic about our defense if you think we need more talent at all those positions

There are 206 bones in the human body...in cowboyRoy’s case every one of dem bones is miserable...the joints grinding day and night.

Maybe someday a smile or laugh will come out. We hope.

You might. I don't.
Cern you're a good, knowledgeable, poster and I too don't trust Rod's overall D, but he's a great teacher for our DL and has gotten every bit of potential out of our Dlinemen. Hell, half the time he's been here the FO has been given him rejects and big bodies recruited from Home Depot

I think he can develop RG.

Two specific things I’d like to see the Boys do with Gregory

-On passing plays line him up ultra wide. He has the foot speed to create terror for an offensive tackle. And if the blocker has to turn hard to the outside, it opens things up for Gregory to spin and come inside. The wider he plays the more the battle becomes about speed.

-Occasionally drop him into shallow coverage and rush Jaylon or LVE. Gregory was quite effective in coverage and had interceptions while at Nebraska. This messes up an opposing offense’s blocking assignments and the QB’s read. This cat is faster than many linebackers. This gives you a ‘blitz’ with 4 rushers.
Just clocking in to say that I love your thread title!!!!

Whatever you say buddy. The defense is great and has been for decades. Were going to the show. LOL

As for lining Gregory up way outside...I see the Cowboys have already been doing it. And yes it works!

I bet the DEs will be Taco/Lawrence/Gregory/Crawford/Ealy on gameday with Craw & Ealy offering ability inside at 3T.
I bet Lawrence gets more rest than last year and Gregory works as a 3rd down rusher.
I got no problem having Taco or Crawford at right DE on early downs since they can both should be able to handle the run well.
Ealy will likely get the scraps.
Lawrence gets more rest. Perhaps we have the talent to give him more rest than usual and still be very effective, not only to not exhaust Lawrence but also to try and keep his stats down so he gets paid less next year.

Our defensive roster looks a lot like Seattle 2013 minus the safety positions.
