if anyone thinks playing for the Cowboys does not give you a chance for a great career in braodcasting, look at how well we have been represented in the past as well as the present..some very well spoken--Aikman, Johnston, Woodson..... and others still finding their way --Emmitt, Keyshawn
Irvin was starting to get it together and than the wheels fell out from him too
Emmitt needs alot of seasoning, Keyshawn seems to be close. Ditka and BP really don't count since they are really from other teams when you get down to it.
...the worst I have seen is Strahan who simply forgets that trash talking belongs on another level and not in the braodcast booth. he will need lots of work when he decides to do it...Tiki will probably do well over time

Irvin already had it down. I dont know what you mean with "he was starting to get it". Irvin was the only reason i watched Sunday Countdown. Now i just watch NFL Network. Irvin was extremely entertaining. Irvin,Aikman,Woodson are the only ones i like.

Aikman
Irvin
Moose
BP
Woody

All of these guys are awesome.

Emmitt needs to foccus on his business relationships instead of Media.

He is already at strike 2, and getting worse.

I agree Emmitt is not in the same class as Aikman, Woodson or Moose, but he is MUCH improved from last year's fumbling around on NFL Network...I was listening to him the other day with out watching and didnt even realize it was him.

Aikman is clearly the cream of the ex-Cowboy crop much less the entire lot of ex-professionals doing broadcasts...Definitely the first team for Fox.

Irvin?...Come on people, he was terrible...Him and Stephen A. Smith should be forced into a cubicle for a winner takes all shout off...The excuses he used to make for players who were constantly making fools of themselves off the field simply highlighted his past as well as weak grasp on reality...Nevermind that he talked out of both sides of his both or that he rarely provided any intelligble insight....Let's face it, he was a great competitor on the field but off of it he's horrible.

Emmitt...I just don't think he has a knack for the booth, wonder if his heart is really in it anyway...Story of so many athletes, done playing and no idea what to do in their late 30s...Bizarre if you think about it...I doubt very much that he lasts or that his interest persists in it.

Moose...I like him but unfortunately he doesn't really provide any useful insight...At times he does pick up some useful analysis on the offensive side of the ball but it's all that he seems to know about...He's lasted so far and I'm sure he'll continue because, let's face it, media companies love white ex-football players...I'd rate him as marginal overall but enjoy when he's covering Dallas games...Perhaps he should simply being doing Cowboy telecasts.

Woody...I think he has a future in the biz and should gain some ground on the ex-Cowboys lot to place just behind Troy...Goes to show you that the field generals on defense end up being very good analysts, particularly on the defensive side of the ball...Woody and Will Allen both have similar styles, IMHO...He's polished too which always helps for broadcasts...No idea if this is something he's serious about but I think the sky's the limit for him.

Deion...Really started off badly, IMHO, but has recovered some...I kinda like the NflTV combo of him with Mariucci...He's an apologist like Irvin for a lot of pretty stupid off the field things and some of the players but I think he's learning how to walk that line still...He's got good on air charisma but I think his analyses are pretty pedestrian...Still, he has a good feel for the game and his predictions are pretty consistent...He's peaked in the booth, though.

Novacek...I always thought he'd be good at this but he kinda disappeared off the radar...He's got pretty good on air presence as evidenced by his stint on that fishing show he had on ESPN...I think he also writes some football columns from time to time?

Haley...He also had good charisma and I wonder if it would've translated well to the booth.

Staubach...That's a guy I think would do well in the booth but very unlikely he goes that route with all the businesses he is a part of.

I was in NYC over the weekend & I saw Troy Aikman walking down Lexington Ave between 51st & 50th st. I'm assuming he was there to do the commentary for the Giants game? He was dressed like he had been at the gym (he also had his gym bag), he was also on his cell phone with a kind of annoyed look on his face.

Just in case anybody thinks a Troy Aikman sighting is interesting.

Staubach was nothing special in the booth. I believe he did it for a year. With his drive and determination he probably would have become much better, but he was just average to start out. Of course I was still a kid when that happened, so my memories may not be entirely clear or real at all. :D

Same classy Philly crowd that cheered Irvin when he was lying motionless on the turf after injuring his neck?...Naah, couldn't be

You remember correctly. Staubach worked for CBS in 80,81, and briefly in 82. He did pro and college football. He was on the "second-tier" of announcing teams. I was excited to have him in the booth but he wasn't really cut out for it.
