I say Watkins just for the fact that I expect the other two to depart for greener pastures. Or more green in the pastures to be precise. If not Canty, then Spears. Depends which one they expect to keep and pay for. One maybe better than the other, but they may keep the lesser just to save money.

Watkins has the potential to make the biggest impact. I liked Watkins when we drafted him. I still think he will become a great Cowboy.

Hmm, I don't know about that. Canty (if he remains healthy) can be a serious player in this league.

I say Watkins, but I say we keep the other 2, possibly let Ratliff go eventually, but I'll reserve comment until atleast next year.

Not saying that Canty is a hamburger, but I think the defensive back position allows for greater gamebreaking ability then a D line/LB position. I just like Watkins a lot. After watching him play, I think hes gunna be a solid starter on the team for a long time. But I would not give Canty away either, Canty will make Watkins life a lot easier. There both great young players.

I see you haven't bitten into the "Parcell's hates Watkin's tackling style/His career is doomed" apple. Good for you.

Definitely a good question to ponder. I would say that Watkins and Canty will both have major impacts, especially considering they are both starters.

However, of the two, i think Watkins will make the biggest impact, strictly because his presence can cause QBs to throw dump-offs instead of bombs, and i think we saw examples of that against Washington.

Canty will be a solid player for us for years as well, and when he gets more tuned in the pass rushing field he will be a monster.

When it comes down to it, i believe Canty is the steal of '05, and Watkins could easily be the steal of '06.

Who's going to be the best Cowboy in the long term?

Jason Hatcher!

I have to go with Chris Canty... Can't go against that potential for a guy of his size and still bulking up. It's going to be hard for a 3-4 defensive end to get much publicity but he's a great run stopper and when he becomes better at pass rushing he'll be a force for offenses every week to fear.

Not to get away from your original list, but I think Jason Hatcher should be added to this list. He is gonna be a beast for us.

This is a very strange comment. Both Ratliff and Canty are only 2nd year players and have yet to even prove they would be worthy of being in demand in the "greener patures". Especially Ratliff who played very little last year and his a situational player this year.

It's kind of early to tell with any of these guys, especially about who will or wont be around in a few years, but my guess would be that Canty will be the best of the bunch.

I think Canty will have the most impact on the defense far as the coaches are concerned, but Watkins will appear to have more impact as far as fans and the media.

I think the whole point of this thread is to try and speculate on who you think will improve and be the best player in the long run. I dont think anyone is putting any of these guys in Canton just yet.

Oh and for the record I will say Watkins.

My comment about it being too early to tell was really directed toward the earlier statement by a poster who chose Watkins because he thought Canty and Ratliff would leave for greener pastures before fully developing with Dallas. That's what I thought was odd.

As far as just speculating on who we think will be better, I can understand that because we at least have seen the guys play and have some evidence to use as the basis for a guess.
