Im on the fence on this issue.

It would be great to have Ray Lewis in the lockerroom but this reeks of Jerry Jones trying to buy "names" although this is a very good name.

Also, if Ray Lewis was a success here, Jerry Jones would feel that this is the proper way to build and team.

Unfortunately, the Cowboys are looking for leadership in the wrong place. Its starts with Jerry Jones and then disseminates downward.

As long as Jerry Jones has an open door policy for players to circumvent the Coaching Staff, it will be hard to field a successful team.

If Ray signed for one year I'd say do it. Never really liked the guy over the murder rap but that's personal. Football is now a bidness and he would finish what Zach started IMO. Barring injuries, Championship!!!

Whats the risk? sign him to a 2 year deal, he's got plenty left in the tank during those 2 years. Draft a MLB this year and have him study under Ray, and when the 2 years are up he's off the books. What's the problem?

I'd rather have Dansby though..he's long-term and as talented as Ray

id like him to be here...just for leadership value..his skills would be just a bonus....for those who thinks he wouldnt be leader here are wrong...he demands respect and wont settle for the uninspired crap going on here....

but you would never see a guy fall out of favor with the public eye faster ...

this is how he is portrayed now in Baltimore...

That's the problem. No one in Baltimore can question Ray cause he built that house. In Dallas, it's like trying to teach the blind to see.
we'll next year the cowboys are moving into a new house that nobody has built yet. he's one of the few players no matter how old he is that I would love to have on my team.

You have got to be kidding me.

You mean our lockerroom is messed up that we have to go out and try to "buy leadership" by giving a 34 yr old linebacker his last payday???

First Wade is back, then Garett strikes out getting a HC job, then Reeves quits after two days on the job because of some stipulation he cant agree to, now we have to go throw millions at a player looking for one last payday............

This is gettin worse by the day, it is starting to get comical now.

could not have said it better. Its General Valley Ranch around here.

RAY LEWIS: NO HOMETOWN DISCOUNT

Posted by Aaron Wilson on February 5, 2009, 6:08 p.m.

Don’t count on All-Pro middle linebacker Ray Lewis granting the Baltimore Ravens the “hometown discount,” in free agency that team owner Steve Bisciotti is hoping for.
In an interview on the NFL Network, the two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year said he wouldn’t give the Ravens a hometown discount and described the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Jets as intriguing possibilities, albeit with a lot of encouragement from host Jamie Dukes during their seven-minute chat.
“I don’t play less,” Lewis told the NFL Network during an interview at the Pro Bowl , per the Baltimore Sun. “If you don’t play less, you don’t take less. That’s just life.”
Bisciotti and Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs have both recently raised the topic of a hometown discount during interviews, but Lewis doesn’t sound interested in the idea.
Lewis has clashed in the past with Cowboys star wide receiver Terrell Owens, who successfuly fought a trade to the Ravens in 2004 and imitated Lewis’ trademark dance after scoring a touchdown against Baltimore when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles.
However, Lewis said he wouldn’t have an issue being Owens’ teammate.
“I can definitely play with T.O.,” Lewis said. “I think T.O. is a great, great person. I just love him. I love his work ethic. I love everything about him. So, playing with T.O. is easy.”
Of course, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, tight end Jason Witten and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett might beg to differ about Owens.
Meanwhile, Lewis said he wouldn’t be concerned about the Cowboys’ shaky locker room chemistry, saying every team needs a strong leader to unify the team.
“I don’t see all of that outside stuff that they’re talking about what goes on in Dallas,” Lewis said. “I see Dallas as a great opportunity. It’s always been America’s Team. It’s just a great place to play football.”
It’s unclear if Dallas is going to go actually pursue Lewis since owner Jerry Jones’ primary stated goal is to sign outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware to a major contract extension.
Lewis expressed interest in New York largely because his former defensive coordinator Rex Ryan is now the Jets’ head coach. Plus, Dukes brought up the Jets.
“That opportunity by itself looks attractive,” Lewis said. “That just sounds right. It’s like, ‘Wow, if something does happen where you’re not back in Baltimore, the Jets wouldn’t be bad.’”
As far as the prospect of staying with the Ravens, where he has played his entire career since being drafted in the first round out of the University of Miami in 1996, Lewis isn’t closing that door.
Yet, he did express disappointment that his contract status hasn’t already been addressed. The Ravens have never let Lewis get to free agency before during his 13-year tenure in Baltimore.
“The uncomfortable thing about me is that I’m even having this conversation,” Lewis said. “With everything I’ve given to that city, I’ve always felt that this is one conversation that I would never have and didn’t want to have. That scenario in Baltimore … that’s nothing I don’t love about my city.”
Of course, that doesn’t mean Lewis will necessarily take a paycut to stay with the Ravens. Lewis’ seven-year, $50 million contract signed in August 2002 has expired. He was paid a $6.5 million base salary each of the past two seasons.
Now, Lewis is being represented by agent David Dunn after Roosevelt Barnes and Eugene Parker negotiated his last deal with Baltimore.

not interested. i would rather invest in our longer term future than short term maybe. ray lewis is a great player. how much longer before he *was* a great player.

the problem we faced last year was getting all our "stars" to line up and play as one. you don't fix that by adding another volitale star to the mix. we don't lack in vocal nature, we lack in unison. i don't see how bringing on someone elses "answer" will be the same answer here.

i want to resign ware, get a solid safety, backup qb and address the OL. we can draft more ILB and or pick up another young promising vet.

i don't see how ray lewis would be the answer we need moreso than just another star lost in the milky way we already have.

agree and disagree....I do think you need a fiery guy on defense to keep the troops focused. I still would not make the move unless the contract can be worked where the biggest hit will take place in the uncapped year.

Michael Smith really said that? He's probably the most credible person on ESPN..more than Mort.

I dont get what the big deal is with people complaining about getting him. He would only be here 2 years tops. After 2 years his salary will be off the books. Meanwhile we would have a deadly LB core and have a draftee like Mckillop/Holtzclaw learn under him during those years and be ready to step in polished when Ray leaves. Pitt did it with Timmons. They didnt need a MLB but they grabbed him in the first round anyways even though they had Foote and Farrior playing at a high level.

Get it done Jerry!!

The opportunity to sign Ray Lewis has sparked mostly positive opinions from what I've seen. Great leadership, great player.

As for me, I'm not so sure it is such a great idea. Lewis is getting a bit long of tooth, and it will take some big time dollars to get him. He would not be the missing link, as we have multiple pieces to the puzzle that need to be filled at this point, including players and coaches.

Just curious of the sentiments of others around here.

Thanks

OH IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN FOLKS! BOOK IT. RAY ON ONE SIDE. TO ON THE OTHER. CHAMPIONSHIP!@!
