Giants | Team re-signs Ward
Fri, 14 Mar 2008 13:20:07 -0700

Updating a previous report, Mike Garafolo, of The Star-Ledger, reports the New York Giants re-signed free-agent RB Derrick Ward to a one-year deal worth $1.1 million with incentives that could earn him another $1 million, according to ESPN.

For those interested . . . .

I Can't see why at that price the Cowboys weren't interested, especially when we need Two RB's.

Didn't you hear? Dallas is for sure making the move for McFadden and with him on the team Jones has decided he doesn't need to carry any other backs cause DMac is going to be the be all end all.

Because it's likely we're going to be spending a 3rd pick or higher on a RB.

So here's the scenario...

1. You have Barber, who's making a decent buck and is a returning Pro-bowler.

2. You have a high draft pick coming in-- probably with a decent pettigree.

3. Then you propose you have Ward who we would end up paying $1 to $2 mil for (and keep in mind we have less than $4 mil in cap space).

Can you see why signing a "Ward" for a couple mill doesn't make sense?

With Tyson being released the Cowboys will need 2 RB's. I just don't feel Comfortable with 2 Rookie RB's on a team that's trying to make the Super Bowl, even if one of those is a high draft pick.

#1. That 3rd back, may or may not be a rookie. But paying a 3rd back more than the vet minimum probably isn't a good investment.

#2. I watched this team win a SB in 1977 with a rookie back.

#3. I'm betting the #2 back is going to have more talent than anyone Emmitt had behind him in 1992, 1993 or 1995.

#4. Look at the backs the Giants won the SB with...
