Abanikanda was selected by the New York Jets in the fifth round (143rd overall) of the 2023 NFL draft. He made his NFL debut in Week 11 against the Bills. As a rookie, he appeared in six games and had 22 carries for 70 rushing yards.

On December 2, 2024, Abanikanda was waived by the Jets.

San Francisco 49ers
On December 3, 2024, the San Francisco 49ers claimed Abanikanda off of waivers.

On July 24, 2025, Abanikanda was waived by the 49ers.

Green Bay Packers
On July 25, 2025, Abanikanda was claimed off waivers by the Green Bay Packers. He was released by the Packers on August 26, as part of final roster cuts and re-signed to the practice squad the next day. The Packers released Abanikanda on September 8.

Yeah, a little disconcerting that he's bounced around so much so quickly and that no one else has picked him up for almost 3 months, but maybe he hasn't been in the right system yet?

Why do we get no reports of updates on Maffah? I don't even think his shoulder was injured, he played all the way through that preseason game. I know he had to be activated off IR already in order toncond back, but feel like we should know something by now.

So many of these "pet cats" don't work out, yet our fans expect us to be able to find a starting running back at any point in the draft.

Not that I'm saying don't pick him up and give him a thorough check, just that so many are like, we can wait until the third day to find a back that's good enough. We drafted two and neither are on the field.

A UDFA is getting on the field some for us, though, which does show you can find players late, which is why you draft them and bring in UDFAs. Your chances just diminish with each round.

I don't either Blue or Mafah is on the PS. Blue is on the 53 but has been inactive. Mafah is still on IR.

I don't think we ever activated his 21-day window, so he may be on IR for the season.

Broaddus said he's never heard anything negative about Phil, he thinks they just didn't think they could spare a roster spot with so many injuries on defense earlier.

I remember that he had 8.25 inch hands and some concerns about fumbles. But very fast. I think Blue also has small hands and I wonder if this is the cause of the fumbles for them.
