Practice Squad RB Israel Abanikanda signed to the practice squad

Blue is inactive or PS?
No nothing that guy said is accurate..Mafah IR Doesn't count against the active game roster.. blue is on the active roster. This kid is on the practice squad all completely different designation so I don't know why he's saying that so no there's nothing going to happen with Blue unless they have another emergency at a position where they absolutely need room and can't think about cutting anyone else...

He's not. He's slow to the hole, Javonte is very quick to the hole.
Not saying he is Javonte just saying he is backup plan if he goes down. If he was better he'd be starting. Also Davis has good acceleration but not good top speed.

The kid's last name is too long. If he was brought up to the 53 man roster and got into the game the announcers would still be trying to figure out to say his name on a run, while the next play was already in the process.....LOL!
They would probably just call him Izzy like they did in college.

He may get there but is certainly no reason not to address backup RB next year. Neither is Davis, Mafah or Abanikanda. You like to be at least three-deep with a player who can step in as the starter if something happens. We're 1 1/2 deep and don't know if anyone can step in if something were to happen to Williams.
Bang for buck, signing premium level RBs and LBs on the open market is a lot cheaper than EDGE, CB,and Tackle. Given we don't have picks in round 2 or round 3, you'd hope we could sign Williams, Pickesns and some depth at LB and RB given the relative free-market acquisition cost.

Then, come draft time prey a couple of those premium positions picks are available when we're on deck, but the rest of the draft has to be BPA and we need depth at CB (assuming Diggs is gone), LB, Edge, Safety, and RB2. Add T to the list if turn-Steele does't step it up down the stretch.

P.O.N. assuming we sign Pickens:

CB
LB
EDGE
S
RB
T (If Steele gets cut)

Man, I'm just knocking off. Couldn't resist.

I hope he comes in a balls out. Our scheme sets those long, to-the-house runs every other game and this guy's got the necessary skills to take it to the crib like Davis did to the Chiefs.

All jokes aside, I think most fans can appreciate this comparison. The potential is def there.

If we re-sign Javonte, which we should, I'm not saying that we should spend a premium pick on RB. I'm just saying we shouldn't be satisfied with what we've got. I think we should spend a fourth-rounder on the position, depending on how the draft falls, because we've had some decent success there before (Barber, Pollard). We need to improve the depth and prepare for if something happens to Williams.

Yep.

If it's a BPA thing, that's the perfect place to pick up an underrated RB.

Yeah, I wanted to go with an earlier round this year because we didn't have a starter. Instead, we waited until the fifth and seventh. I'm not complaining, though, because Eze and Revel were good picks valuewise. That's why it is difficult to rely on the draft to fill a position because you can't turn your back on the best values.

Javonte Williams has worked out far greater than I imagined he would, though. Based on his average the previous two seasons, what we're getting from him was unexpected. Maybe we don't get it again, but I'd re-sign him and then try to find a back who can share the load with him/replace him when necessary. It's possible Blue or Mafah will develop into that back, or even Abanikanda, but since we don't know that, we need to keep swinging.

Exactly, and EDGE and CB cost a lot more in FA, so those drafting those postition in early rounds make a lot of sense if you can hit.

People complain about the all the first round OL picks, but they contiunually have lengthy careers making the value better, since we typically evaluate OL well.

An elite, first-round RB could be out of the league right after you sign the 2nd contract. Plus, they fall off seemingly overnight, like Zeke and Gurly for example. We saw Gurly's decline happen during the season in 2019. Dude went from 4.8 a carry to 3.8 a carry in just one season. Same with alot of these LBs.

I liked Abinikanda @ Pitt. Alot.

He's got serious wheels and a sturdy frame, and can catch the ball out of the backfield.

I thought he'# be a great pro and wondered where he went.
