Re-sign Pickens or use that money on the defense?

I am of the mind that you tag Pickens. Attempt to make defense passable through first 2 picks and a mid tier FA. Be great on offense. Only chance for playoffs next year. Can't sign Pickens LT and can't fix defense in one off season.

Here we are crying poor because of the big bad cap monster and the off season hasn’t even started yet.

They can do both. Quite easily

I thought you were talking career
Imagine how many more opportunities Prescott would’ve had, if the defense could’ve got the ball back to us

Even so I don’t think we are seeing dak crack anything over 35 imo.

This is the problem I have. So many resources devoted to the offense and they need to put over 30 every single game. Instead we will put up 44 one week and 17 the next. Just overall inconsistent and I expect so much more if the offense is going to be about 73% of the cap

Dak has two #1 recievers and a 1k rusher 30 tds and 10 ints

Meanwhile Stafford throws 16 more touch down passes and 2 less interceptions with a great #1 and an aging former #1
Dallas had 8 more rushing TD's than LA but yardage was almost equal as well as QBR. Dak rushed for 177 yards and Stafford for 1

Pickens can be tagged for #28M/yr

Dallas has plenty of money when they do a bunch of contract restructures and some player moves.

They have plenty of cash. $80-$90M after restructures and post June 1 cuts. The cap is plenty manageable.

A better D will help with inconsistency (more possessions). No offense in the NFL is putting up 35 EVERY week.

Maybe this will help you slow your roll a little bit:

stafford had a great season. and absolutely better than daks. there's more than one season though, and it invalidates your original statement. stafford had a 1k rusher as well, and a second rusher that combined for over 2k, along with Mcvay.

Flournoy's play, especially in last three games where he outplayed Pickens, makes me more comfortable to move on from him. We just have too many holes on defense and could probably get a cheaper decent WR in free agency as well. Not saying I don't want Pickens, but a stout defense would get us more wins.

Catch-22

Dak needs elite weapons to be serviceable. We saw what he was in 2024 with just Ceedee and the Maybes.

But the talent on this defense is so bad. Quinnen and Overshown (somewhat) are the only players i feel good about going forward

Come on dude. Stanford not only has the better offense receivers including tight ends and two strong running backs. McVay vs Schotty is a laughable comparison but the Rams defense would have had the Cowboys as Super Bowl contenders. Some of you guys hate Dak so much you get blindsided by reality.

Wait to hear Jerry crying about it though

He’ll tag Pickens and then cheap out right about the time Stephen starts talking about “slicing the pie”

Wow I can't believe how easy this is and how complicated everybody's making it.

First off the biggest improvement can be made by hiring an elite defensive coordinator look what Robert Salah is doing in San Francisco with absolutely nothing.

Second we have two first round draft picks to throw at the defense
Along with actually participating in free agency this year.

Jerry is not getting rid of Brian schottenheimer that's his new project in case anybody doesn't know he is not an elite head coach and needs all the talent he can get to be successful.

Removing talent from the offense is no guarantee to fix the defense you could throw a ton of talent at the defense and if it's not coach properly it underachieves

Dak might have the most meaningless regular season numbers of any QB in history.

2-5.

Only numbers I care about.
Well, tell that to the guy I responded to. And then we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

The luxury of having 2 elite WRs in this offense can't be denied. I like Flouney in this offense as my slot guy but people talk about him as if he's the same caliber of Pickens but fail to realize Flouney is doing damage against opposing teams number 3 corner or safety. Matchup advantage goes to RF in this situation. Could Ryan step up in that number 2 role and give the same type of production? Who knows but a bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush, and that uncertainty still looms for Flouney's young career.
