Realistic expectation from this year's draft?

Starter yes, but alot of time even for 1st's thats a below average starter. Guys like Sauce, Surtain and Mitchell are the exception, not the rule.
Not saying walk in star, but if you draft the top corner, the expectation should be day 1 starter.

It depends on who they draft at the back end of the first round.

With the first pick, Delane would be a no doubt starter pretty much right away, if they could manage him. Downs would be a starter if he was the early pick.

The second pick, if they took Rodriguez at the back of the first, he would be a starter.

If they took Lawrence instead at the end of the first, he would likely just be a contributor in year one. That doesn’t make him a bad pick.

I think Keionte Scott would essentially be a starter.

If they took Chris Johnson or Hood at the back of round 1, they would be either a starter or a heavy contributor.

I’m just not going to bet real caught up in starter vs contributor. Any of those guys would help.
I would like to see more ready players, then wait on a steep developmental curve based on traits upside. Those players bust more then they hit.

I know, but Im saying year one CB's, even drafted in the first round, tend to be below average starters

Draft picks in general dont help you defense immediately as much as some fans want to think

I’m in the camp that believes that significant improvements will come simply from the scheme and coaching changes.
This is what I’ve been saying. The scheme (and the coaching) is a huge improvement over last year’s. If nothing else changed, I would expect significantly better results from the defense.

However, there’s no doubt that it also needs an influx of talent. They’ve already done a good bit of that with trades/free agency, so that will help.

Now, they just need to get two or three good players from the draft and the team can expect a good jump up from worst in the league.

Guys like Delane/Downs/Lawrence/Rodriguez/Scott/Howell/Johnson/Hood/McDonald/Allen/Mesidore…. Two of those guys will help a lot.

But it isn’t like they must draft two guys to make the difference between having the worst defense in the league and having a decent defense.

They’ve already done a lot to help fix the defense, IMO.

I believe that every player on the team is measurably better as a result of that, and that every rookie coming in is better for it as well.

I don’t have a line-in-the-sand expectation when it comes to the draft. But I have to believe they’ll get three to four contributors for 2026 at a minimum.
New staff is apart of the rebuild, hope is that they can further develop holdover players.

I don’t disagree. Of those players that I mentioned, really Lawrence is the only one that is a develop guy. Maybe you could say Hood, but I’m more of a guy that feels like he’s kind of already shown it.

Chris Johnson, Delane, Scott, Rodriguez, Downs… they’re all ready to go as rookies IMO.

Certain positions translate well like off ball linebacker, safety, running back-they are usually good right away.

Think Hood is good press corner as soon as he hits the field, has to develop more as a zone defender.

Yeah, that is my concern with him.

Delane and Chris Johnson are already really, really good in zone. Smart with good eyes. It is why I prefer those two over hood.

I really wish Ponds was a couple inches taller… He’s fantastic.

I do think that Delane and probably Chris Johnson will be good right away… but I’ve been wrong before.

We all have to understand this is year 1 of a defensive rebuild, not all needs are going to be addressed, what is your realistic expectation for this year's class?

-Two impact starters
-Find 2 yr contributors after rd 1
-Improve the overall defensive talent
:hammer:

With the talent we rolled out last year we should be able to get at minimum 3 starters out of this draft on that side of the ball. Unless they go the “injury” route…..

No....I don't have to understand. I'm done listening to the *******es trying to sell me this administration has a plan. They haven't had a plan for 30 damn years....and it shows. It's in the history....let's switch defenses...let's switch coordinators....let's switch the players. The one constant in all this is Jerry and his stupid clan that could never figure this out.

LB, DE, CB and or Safety position all need a new starter. I could see us getting 3 out of the 4 in this draft.

That does not mean they all will play well. They just need to be better than what we currently have.

Think Safety is probably the least priority as they signed two fa's and kept Hooker. Future need, yes.

True, but the safety class is deep.

I don't understand why we add FA positions that are deep in the draft, when we should be adding positions in FA that are weak in the draft.

Agree, he is fantastic reacting in zone coverage (Ponds)

7 HOF players

Ideally the 1st rounders at least become starters.
3rd rounder would be nice to start out as rotation/sub packages by some point
Day 3 on, just get players that could at least be dressed and some type of package by mid year.
we need 21 HoF players from this draft, even if some of them are not even born yet....
