It's more clear with every turnover plagued loss that Tony Romo will never help add to the Cowboys 5 SB championships. He'll never be thought of in the same light as Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman. This is not the same Tony Romo that we saw in 07 or even for most of 08. He's heading south and I'm not talking about Cabo. He's clearly regressing and I think his best days are behind him. His confidence is absolutely SHOT! He has a history dating back to college of turning the ball over and making poor decisions. He's never won a playoff game at any level and we're seeing why. He's not near the QB he was even in 06. He can no longer feel pressure and even though the Cowboys have reeled him in to limit his turnovers he keeps committing them at inopportune times. Instead of improving without TO he's gotten worse which I predicted he would. I predicted his numbers would decline and they are. What decided yesterdays game was Denver had what the Cowboys don't a big, physical playmaking receiver.
Romo was forced to rely on Sam Hurd of all receivers who was being covered by Champ Bailey to try and win the game on the final two plays inside Denver's 5 yard line. How screwed up is that? Hell TO would have taken that 53 yard pass to Hurd for a TD. A big part of Romo's regression this season has been our WR's inability to separate from defenders and get open. This caused 3 coverage sacks yesterday. Romo was at his best when he was taking the ball down the field to TO. TO had to be accounted for at all times and it enabled our other receivers to get open. Say what you will but the loss of TO has made the Cowboys a MUCH easier team to defend. No longer do the Cowboys have quick strike ability unless they're playing the Bucs. Felix Jones is the only player we have that scares anyone and with him out of the lineup we're like a fighter with no punch. Romo has been relegated to dinks, dunks and screens to help him avoid mistakes to no avail.
When the Cowboys get behind to real good teams and Romo is pressed into having to go vertical it's going to get ugly. It did yesterday and we haven't seen the worst of it. The Cowboys were in a 3rd and 14 and Romo threw a screen pass. :bang2: He dumped the ball off several times in 3rd and long situations because we have no speed on the outside except for Austin who can't be trusted. He screwed up another route yesterday that resulted in a turnover. We've seen the same thing with RW and Romo. Romo has begun to fear making mistakes and is now thinking instead of reacting. He can't function this way and be successful. He was at his best when he played more aggressively but unfortunately his confidence isn't what it was and we don't have WR's who can run good routes and separate. Romo has taken such a beating from the media he appears to be a QB who's in over his head. The lack of trust in his WR's and the criticism he's received from all his mistakes is making him even more gun shy to pull the trigger and it's resulting in sacks and very inaccurate throws. His accuracy has really gone down the drain. If a QB doesn't have trust in their receivers they'll never develop any chemistry with them. To enter the season with this receiving corp was a huge miscalculation on Jerry's part which is not uncommon for him. The man eats, sleeps and sh*ts the Cowboys and he still doesn't have a clue about his personnel. The RW trade is blowing up in his wrinkled face as we speak. Spencer and Bennett have been huge disappointments so far this season.
Spencer showed more potential 3 years ago as a rookie than he is now. The Giants drafted Steve Smith 25 spots after the Cowboys took Spencer and he's better than a receiver we gave up 3 picks for. We could have had Mario Manningham 32 picks after we took Bennett. Look this season was doomed the day Jerry said Wade was coming back. The team is headed back were it came when Parcells took over. When you look at the personnel on the team there's only a few real good players. The Cowboys have a great TE, DE and 3 excellent RB's but the rest of the talent is pretty average including Newman who can't cover when forced into press coverage. His game has always been to play not to get beat. He's never been a playmaker and right now his speed looks questionable. Don't kid yourselves he's been part of the problem in our secondary. Even though the D looked pretty good yesterday it broke down again late as usual. This team never plays for 60 minutes and shows no heart or killer instinct. The Cowboys have taken on Wade's soft personality. There's nothing I see that gives me any encouragement the Cowboys winless playoff drought will be ending anytime soon. As a matter of fact it may be awhile before they even qualify for the playoffs again. I'm not real disappointed in what I'm seeing because this is exactly what I expected when I saw we were downgrading our talent during the offseason. Only Brooking and our KO specialist were upgrades over what we had. These are the facts coming from an objective diehard Cowboys fan. You can either bash me, come to grips with them or search for excuses and continue to live in denial.
