The ol' Baylor All American and Jim Thorpe Award winner, if Singletary is hired this team will be swarming with memories of the great Baylor players from the Grant Teaff years.

Yep sure is T Everett....a great deal by the JJ boys. Also see Ken Norton, better I might add than any of our LB's today except Ware. Loved his stick on the goaline of I believe it was T Davis, correct me if I'm wrong. Also see R Maryland...better than any DL that we have today.

Amazing the talent that team had!!

His stick was Kenneth Davis IIRC.

Norton's play was on 3rd down just before Everett intercepted the ball on 4th down as shown in the picture. Two great back to back plays. It was also a good defensive call to pull out the goal line defense because they anticipated that Buffalo would not try to run it again.

That is rookie MLB Robert Jones who is on the fullback's hip in that play. He was the weak link on that defense and even at that was not too bad that season.

Jones had a great rookie campagin but an average overall career afterwards in Dallas, I would argue the weakest links were Vinson Smith at outside linebacker and Issac Holt and Larry Brown as starters at corner for most of that season before the rookie Kevin Smith took over for Holt just before the playoffs.

That defense had depth and that was the key but some of the starters were just average players that performed well in the schemes and with great players around them.

Line Up:

Starters:

Charled Haley (13 games) Jim Jeffcoat (3)
Tony Casillas (16) Chad Hennings (0)
Russell Maryland (16) Leon Lett (0)
Tony Tolbert (15) Jimmie Jones (1)

Vinson Smith (14) Mickey Pruitt (2)
Robert Jones (16) Godfrey Myles (0)
Ken Norton Jr.(16) Dixon Edwards (0)

Issac Holt (11) Kevin Smith (5)
Larry Brown(16) Ray Horton (0) Robert Williams (0)
James Washington (14) Kenneth Gant (2)
Thomas Everett (16) Darren Woodson (0)

Are you kidding ??

It seems like a lifetime ago for me since we were in the Super Bowl, .. kicking butt and taking names.

We have experienced a lot of losing since then.:(

You're absolutely right about our depth, and the fact that many of our starters (notably LB) were average.

But it's a true testament to how talented the secondary and DL were when Leon Lett, Chad Hennings, and Darren Woodson....great players...were all backups.

All of those guys in the secondary were also good special teams guys. Guys you could count on. You left off Bill Bates.

Agree Robert Jones was the weak link. Was a #1 draft choice too. I believe Jimmy wanted someone else but our DC kept raving about him.

The best part of those teams was in the 2nd half...that's when all the fun started. Our big OL used to just wear down D lineman in the 2nd half of games. Total ball control and there was no stopping it.

Our depth was scary.
Remember how much Lett, Jones and Jeffcoat actually played.

I thought Lett was our best DT as early as 1992.
Too bad he couldn't stay on the straight and norrow.
I've always felt he was our defensive MVP during the 4 year Superbowl run.
He was unblockable. Would have been right up their with Lilly and White.
In fact, I saw him as a Bob Lilly of the 90's. Unusually tall for the position with long arms. Cat quick. Played all over the field.

I believe K. Smith was starting by late season.
Definetly was a starter in the play-offs.

I honestly believed that our entire 2nd team would have been a more than respectable starting defense in the league that year.
It had more talent than quite a few other teams.

Teaff had a winning record against UT so be careful;):D

Baylor produced more Super Bowl starters than any other Texas school at that time.
