Really liking the Receiver situation we have

I think many people asked whether or not it was worth drafting a WR in the 3rd round. I think a lot of people would have rather us drafted a defensive player or at least an another offensive linemen. They certainly weren't happy with what we did at tight end.

I think most people would agree that Green Bay doesn't have the greatest offensive line in football. Yet they were really able to put together a really potent offense (without really running the ball either).

When they won the Super Bowl in 2010, they didn't really have a stunning amount of experience at WR, but they did have pedigree down the chart.

Greg Jennings - 2006 2nd round draft pick
James Jones - 2007 3rd round draft pick
Jordy Nelson - 2008 2nd round draft pick

Donald Driver - 1999 7th round draft pick* Didn't really have pedigree, but certainly had experience.

That being said, the Super Bowl Champion Packers went 10-6 in 2010, and their regular season production certainly doesn't jump off the charts. They were 6-10 in 2008. Very similarly to the Cowboys they had a passing attack. Aaron Rodgers had a 93.8 QB Rating.

In 2009 their offense improved a bit, but their defense greatly improved. They went 11-5.

In 2011 they went 15-1, and lost in their first round of the playoffs to the Giants. Similar to our 2007 year.

I have a strong belief that our wide receiver situation can really help carry this team.

Dez Bryant
Miles Austin
Terrance Williams
-------------------
Dwayne Harris
Cole Beasley
Danny Coale

The only receivers of any notable pedigree are Dez and Williams, but I think we've really found some receiver that we can develop into consistent weapons. Especially when you combine them with our tight end situation. I think we saw what happened with Laurent Robinson, and I don't think that had much to do with how good Robinson was (as evidenced in Jacksonville), rather just how open the offense can be with a competent third receiver when Austin and Bryant are often bracketed with safety help.

And like I said the Packers were dominant without having an especially productive running game. I think when you add what we plan to have this year, this offense is going to be extremely potent. I think we have a certain number of weapons on offense it makes playing cover 2 man really difficult. Cover 2 man has been a way a lot of teams have gotten pressure on Romo in the past. You take away Dez and Austin, bring enough pressure to force Witten to stay in, and you've essentially beaten our offense with this offensive line.

I think when you look at the Packers and when you look at the Patriots you really get a picture of what we can do on offense.

I'm excited about what a real 2 tight end package will do for our running game, and our receiving game. I'm excited to see whether improvements in our interior pay dividends. I'll still be very excited if we get Brandon Moore and Tyson Clabo. If both of those two things happen, I would say right off the bat that we're the favorites in the NFC East next year.

I agree that our receivers are looking up. But, only Dez and Williams have notable pedigree? What has Williams accomplished in the NFL? Kind of weird not mentioning Miles in that sentence. I agree with the premise though :)

Dez has notable pedigree. Eyeball test causes instant reaction of: "THAT GUY IS A BEAST!!"

Why are we paying Anthony Armstrong 630k dollars? That the real question.

Almost certainly is going to be cut. And that is real money that could be used now. We have at least 6 receivers we should be taking on the roster in September, guys who need as many reps as they can get in training camp. Dude is 30 years old, I don't see what he brings to the table. I guess Jerry thinks he could become a deep threat here. Unless he shows something in training camp, I'd get rid of this guy.

Carlton Mitchell is getting 550k, this guy doesn't have a career touchdown.

Together that's over million bucks.

Pedigree doesn't equate to experience in the nfl. It simply means that he was drafted high and he was regarded as one of the best receivers in college.

Miles on the other hand went undrafted.

Didn't want to start a semantics debate here. I was just asking why Williams pedigree was higher then Miles. I didn't realize it was restricted to pre-draft observations.

My wifes teacup chihuahua had a pedigree too, yet he turned out to be a 14lb porker :lmao2:

It just gets old seeing this team/fans anointing crowns and pedestals to unproven players, especially to those who have yet to play.

IMO, Miles is >>>Williams until proven otherwise. His pedigree may look better, but looks can be deceiving.

As you can see from the depth chart I listed, clearly Austin is higher.

Pedigree is understood to be value coming out of college. That is all that it means.

Lol, you guys really don't know what pedigree means.. OP used it properly and is correct, Dez & Terrance are the only WR's with notable pedigree. Go look up the word in a dictionary.

pedigree
1. an ancestral line; line of descent; lineage; ancestry.
(pretty sure Miles has that)
2. a genealogical table, chart, list, or record, especially of a purebred animal.
(well, i'm guessing he isn't an animal)
3. distinguished, excellent, or pure ancestry.
4. derivation, origin, or history: the pedigree of a word.
(once again, sure that Miles has an origin and a history in his life)

In his life? Go look up the word context this time.

I know what history means Einstein. His LIFE is all that matters. He is the ONE catching the football. Not his great, great, great, great, great Grandfather. Is that context for you? This isn't selective breeding for a particular dog or cat, which pedigree really refers to. So once again, Dez and Williams so called pedigree means nothing in the big picture. Just as the word pedigree means nothing. And don't give me the "Oh, they went to a Division 1 school".

Reality, go look that up.
