Not BLAMING anyone or anything on Barber's injury...but I really thought we would have seen Felix late in the 2nd quarter. There is a REASON we spent a 1st round pick on him....and sure, there is a REASON we just gave Barber a healthy extension. But this is a long season and we NEED both of them. Which means I was shocked that Barber played like 5+ series straight. Loved the win, loved the gameplan, love the effort. But that does not mean there are not some things we could have done better....and this in my opinion is one of them. And I would not be shocked at ALL if I hear that Jerry thought the same thing...in fact, that was one of the things he talked to Wade about during Hard Knocks. A lot of those runs where Marion did not HIT it up in there could have been because of fatigue. THere is NO embarassment taking a series or 2 off. Felix is a FIRST ROUND pick..the modern day NFL has VERY FEW Emmit Smith's....we need to be smarter about this in the future. The very 1st play Felix gets in the game...he BUSTS through the line...the same line were Barber had been getting strung wide the prior couple of drives.

Yes I was surprised they didn't put Felix in at least a series in the 1st half.
I expected a two back system this yr like years past.

I'm sure Felix role will increase as the season moves along. I'm not concerned about him getting playing time

I agree with you guys, I dont want to second guess the coaches, but lord knows every coaching staff in the NFL make mistakes ( be it not a real big one since Barber is capable of handling a full game) but, Felix is a good change up and it can disrupt defenses by constantly rotating them in and out in certain situations

Perhaps saving Jones for the Eagles, so they have little tape on him? I fully expect to see the 2 back sets against the Eagles.

When the offense is working and everything is clicking, why would you want to change? I'm sure the coaching staff intended on getting him in the mix earlier, but there was no point since the offense was unstoppable. Felix is a change of pace back that's going to be a sparkplug for the offense. If the offense doesn't need a "jump start" so to speak, I think you're better off saving him and the plays designed for him, for when you do need him.

No doubt about it Felix needs more touches early, not garbage time.

Also as a pass option. Not a smart job getting MB dinged up week 1.

I don't agree. Perhaps we would have seen Felix sooner had some of the first half drives lasted longer.

The first drive was 10 plays, which is long. I just don't think you throw Felix in that earlier especially when they were just rolling.

Cleveland did put together their own long drive, so a lot of the clock was used up.

The next drive was only 4 plays resulting in a score.

The next drive was a 3 and out. Just like that you have the ball 3 times and no chance to get Felix in the game.

The final drive of the half was 10 plays and again the offense had the Browns on their heels. Barber was not tired at that point and there was no reason to just throw in Felix when the offense is cruising.

The first drive of the second half was a 3 and out. Barber was obviously ready to be in the game after getting rested up during halftime.

We then see Felix on the next drive.

I don't see a reason to pull out a running back just to get Felix some reps this early in the season. Not when the basic plays are working and working well.

I, too, was expecting to see F Jones earlier in the game.

But I thought that maybe the coaching staff wanted to "ease" Felix in the game later on since this was his first NFL game. And maybe as the season progresses the coaching staff will include F Jones earlier.

we can agree to disagree...but I did did not think Barber would play the entire 1st half...I guess they do not want to EASE him into being a full time RB...again, we did not draft FeJo to be Mr. Gadget....and I disagree, I think I saw Marion breathing hard and his hands on his hips. He is a FEROCIOUS runner....who has never been the full time guy in high school, college or pro. And he does not HAVE to be that here. He has nothing to prove to this coaching staff or his teamates. He sometimes runs 10 yards to get 2 yards....that is taxing and I doubt he changes his style. So as long as that IS his style...we need to make sure he gets a breather.

You'll be seeing Felix in the first half.

The guy is an incredible running back.

There... I said it.

I was also surprised he wasn't in earlier. But I think the staff isn't so happy with his pass blocking at this point.

he picked up the RIGHT guy every time from what I witnessed...but he is giving up like 50 pounds to McGinnest...so in those cases you expect him to slow the guy down and give the QB an extra second

I agree I think that is an area he needs to work on and improve on. The way Dallas offense was moving the ball there was no way that Barber was coming out. I think as Jones improves in certain areas he will see more time but I think this is the time to trust Garrett and Phillips as to what is best for this team. They know what they have in these players

Per the Calvin Watkins chat:

The Goose: Why did it take so long for the Cowboys to put Felix Jones in the game?

Calvin Watkins: Felix Jones first entered in the first quarter and lined up wide. The Cowboys don't plan on a rotation with Jones and Marion Barber this year unless something changes. After yesterday's performance and with Barber having some rib problems, expect Felix to get some carries earlier in the game.

why do the Cowboys not PLAN on a rotation of Barber and Jones this year? Because they plan on rotating him with Choice? Or because they don't plan on rotating him AT ALL. If the latter is true that would be a BIG mistake!

Done. We'll see if he responds. I've already shot him a question, but the chat is moderated, too. So I don't know if he'll get it.
