Rebuilding the Defense

5 years worth of defensive picks taken in the top 100 and we really only have Osa to show as a contributor right now out of the 10 picks. That’s how you end up in the mess we are in. Despite how much credit McClay and company get as great drafters

yeah thats not good.

Dak is Romo. Jerry lucked into a franchise quarterback. Unlike Aikman where there was a plan for number 8.
Lucking into Romo and then Dak as franchise QBs is probably the worst thing that could have happened
convinced Jethro he does not have to look for a top QB because they drop right into his lap

Osa is not much
not a needle mover

Remember the Quincy Carter, Hutch, Henson, and Vinny days. That is what we would get when Dak leaves. Unfortunately Milton (Carter) is already on the team.

Lately they have been more concerned with RAZ and other scores rather than guys making plays and being in the right spot. Murray was a RAZ guy so was Elam and Williams. I am about done with RAZ guy's
I am fine with it if the guy has shown he can play football. Being good at football has to be the primary factor though!! Athletic score has to be gravy on top.

As I wrote in a response yesterday, here are the only players that are keepers next season, either based on contracts or recent draft picks:

Ez, Kneeland, Osa, Clark, Marist, James, Overshown, Bland, Revel.

Everyone else needs is replaceable. You can get cap savings with June 1 releases of both Diggs, Hooker.

1) need to find with right DC, right scheme moving forward and stick with it. Cannot keep on firing your DC every offseason and have the players learning and fitting into a new scheme. Hire a DC and add players that fit his style of defense.

2) must use all resources, fa, draft and trade market to improve the overall talent.

3) try to accumulate as many draft picks as possible, perhaps trading back to add more selections. They need a draft like the one Parcells had when we had two first rd picks: Ware, Spears, Burnett, Canty, Ratliff.

4) must stop targeting all world athletes, but rather high IQ, instinctive football players.
Do Arlington Jonesboys fans realize that Jerry Dumbo GM Jones is running the draft and what has it gotten the Jonesboys in 30 years?

Should've started by not taking Mazi/Schooner/Sam Williams.

Clark needs another stud DT to go with him and Bland and after that Overshown at LB but everyone else needs replacing after those 3.

I would trade up for Caleb Downs. Hopefully we keep losing and don't need to.

We have not had a legit SS that puts fear in an offense in a long time.

I hope Jerry can find a disgruntled player from another team who's a big name. He can get him for a 1st, then when he gets here, he can start all over being a disgruntled guy for the Cowboys. I'd give him a bunch of money, too, so we can't cut him.

Bill Parcells period was really naive? ... OK. :flagwave:

Parcels is the reason we had Romo. The crappy quarterbacks started with Campo.
:laugh:Look again and cite a source with what you state.

Bill Parcells used the following quarterbacks for the Dallas Cowboys: Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson, Vinny Testaverde, Drew Bledsoe, Tony Romo, and Brad Johnson. Parcells coached the team from 2003 to 2006, and his tenure included a mix of established veterans and young players.
