I would've given a heads up because it was good stuff on the Choppy and Greggo show (or whatever it's called), but I was away from the computer. Not many commercials, so lots of solid talk.

It was a few hours ago now, but some notes off the top of my head:

-- First talked about what the draft room is like. Says it's actually very calm in there. Everyone has a job to do and they're usually focused on that. For instance, he was a pro personnel guy, so he gave input on who other teams might be looking at. But most people are busy studying their area.

-- Talked about the (in)famous last-second Roy Williams trade in '02. Jerry had a phone in each hand and finally got the trade done when Minny admitted they weren't taking Roy. They were so happy they got the deal done, they celebrated for a second. Stephen Jones realized how close the time was, and literally dove across a table to hit the speakerphone and get the deal called in with something like five seconds left. The NFL guy who takes the calls warned them they better not ever cut it that close again.

-- Asked if draft rooms every get excitable or emotional, he said not really (see above), but sometimes people get wide-eyed when another team does something they don't expect. When he was at Green Bay, they had Shante Carver as like a sixth rounder. When Jerry took him in the second, Ron Wolf looked at them all very seriously and said, "I sure hope we got it right with that guy."

-- He said it also gets nerve-wracking when you're hoping a prospect falls. Waiting and hoping on Witten was torture, he said. (I wondered why they didn't trade up for him.)

-- As you see the draft unfold, you realize that some teams had players graded almost the same as you. You make a mental note of that for future drafts to keep an eye on them (for instance to trade in front of them).

-- On to our draft, he thinks we'll go WR, DE, or LB with our first pick. Thinks we'll wait till later on the safety. He said we like McBath a lot and seemed to think we might take him at 69.

-- A caller asked about a huge nosetackle, and he said from the people he's talked to out there (VR), he thinks we really do like the backups already on the team. Maybe Wade really does like Siavii that much... Or maybe they're just being quiet. BTW, for Bob and others, he said he's asked some personnel people he knows around the league about Brace, and some absolutely love him, while others are meh.

-- A caller asked about getting a new left tackle, and he said he forgot to say earlier he thinks they'd love it if Max Unger fell that far. First time I've really heard that we might like him a lot.

-- Another caller asks about Harvin. Broaddus says there's a great chance he'll be there at 51 -- tons of teams simply want nothing to do with drug issues. It's not worth it for a guy to enter the league already in the program. Can't imagine we'd be interested if we took Desean Jackson off our board, and he never failed a drug test.

-- Talked about special teams being important and how Bill always asked how many plays this guy could give you a game. Mentioned Clay Matthews as a great special team player. Thinks Belichick and Pioli will be looking at him hard.

I thought NFL teams really felt he needed to stay inside to thrive at this level.

He's suppose to be a C/G in the nfl. I guess the LT question just reminded him of Unger, I don't think he meant that they like him as a LT. (At least I hope not)

I'll chime in on his thoughts now.

I think Junior Siavii can do that job. Maybe I'm being fooled, but he's a huge, massive body. He seems to have the trust of the coaches, and it really does sound like the plan is to reunite he and Igor. And even Tim Anderson has played in this league. It's not like they're stars, but I don't think they need to be. They can do that job.

I know the Cowboys are supposed to love Louis Delmas, but I am fine with waiting. I think some solid safeties will be there at 69. Darcel McBath would be a nice pick. But even guys like Mike Hamlin, Chip Vaughn, and maybe CJ Spiller could be solid player.

WR makes a lot of sense at 51. I think that's where the value will be. I know they are supposed to love Robiskie, but I don't think he makes it that far. Instead, I think a guy like Derrick Williams might make some sense. He's your new PR, plays some in the slot, and has some "wild-hog" experience (in case you buy in to all of that). But I like the idea of adding some more speed there.

I guess that means there is no chance in hell they are going to move Ratliff to DE, considering the fact that Broaddus was speaking about how VR is happy with the back-ups at NT. I think Wade is expecting big things from Igor.

How hard can it be to at least equal what Tank Johnson brought to the field last season?

It won't take a moon shot to replace or better that type of production.

I hope Junior Siavii makes the grade.

I don't know. He did mention that he'd played tackle earlier in his career and is a good athlete. (BAT, who is sort of a west coast expert, has mentioned it here.)

And I forgot that he seemed to like Robiskie a lot. He thought of him when talking about Matthews and having a father or family who were in the game.

He's a solid player and all, but he just doesn't excite me for some reason.

I just don't see a big upside there.

which is terrible. Ratliff could be our Richard Seymour but instead he's gonna be our undersized nosetackle. Wade is such a "defensive genius" yet his defenses have never won anything.

He's shown the ability to play all the line spots, but its probably best that he plays inside and center at some point. Sort of like Gurode is capable of playing guard or center but he's a much better center.

Unfortunately, we drafted Carver with the 23rd pick of the first round. We got Larry Allen in the second round.

I believe they tried to trade up for Willie McGinest in that draft but missed out. The sad thing is if they would have gotten the deal for McGinest they most likely would have missed out on Allen. So they were screwed either way.

I don't like the idea of a WR in the second or our first pick of this draft. But I can see that Robiskie would be a great pickup at 51 or even trading up some for him. I like Williams although he's a bigger risk. Lots. I'd much rather have someone on the LOS/front seven. But the value may be there at WR more than LOS. As long as they pick guys with a good chance to contribute long and short term I'm ok with it. And even if I'm not who cares esp them. :)
