I missed the interview but I know a few of you heard it and I can't believe no ones posted a recap as of yet. Hers what I heard post interview comments and 2 minute drill wise. That in mind not exact quotes, sorry

Said the amount of money being paid is unreal and can't wait/hopes he gets his.

Been a starter for 5 years so they know what they have, not like they need to see him prove it

Wants a deal before the season starts and if not maybe they can trade me mid season and get Chad Johnson. ( I don't know if he was serious on that or not  )

One of the announcers was saying, and I don't know if it was brought up in the Tnew interview that teams needed to pay their players befor ethey paid others in free agancy. Said franchising Asomugha then signing Hall long term was wrong. Went on to say if we picked up CJ that would ruin deals with Barber and Newman from a cap standpoint.

Yet another "disgruntled" player on D. I know Akin wasn't real pleased with the signing of ZT and said he would get with Jerry and WP to see what this all meant for him and his future with the team

Anyone else who has more to add it would bbe much appreciated

T-new is a jokester, so without hearing the interview, no conclusions should be reached from newman's comments.

Not a big deal yet, I think Newman is just making some noise to bring the boys to the table. Just kind of like, hey guys, I've got a contract and I'm a top tier corner, so unless you want to have to pay out above Asomugha (sp, I know...), you might want to start those talks.

Here was a half-assed recap from a Saints fan on another forum, similar stuff.

Says the Cowboys need to show him some cheddar. Said he is not about the money, but he is in the last year of a deal he feels was too long(but it wasn't when he signed somehow), and wants to make fair market value. They asked him if he would mind if the Cowboys waited until mid-year like they did with Romo, and he said he has proven himself beyond 7 games so they shouldn't wait that long for him. Said he wants a deal done by the start of the season. He even mentioned being traded if not. But definitely said he would test free agency next year if not(where he will be quickly franchised I would guess).

Maybe the Saints would trade us their first and third for Newman. ;)

sounds like utter b/s to me. Newman's never said anything like the above...as others have mentioned, he doesnt have a good sense of humor and maybe if he said any of this he was joking, but otherwise this sounds like b/s

I hear newman on with jen engle during the season every tuesday. He is alwasy goofing around and being sarcastic so I am sure if we get to hear the interview it will come off different.

Actually he has a very good sense of humor, but it's so dry and sarcastic that if you aren't familiar with it you might think he was serious. For instance, that comment about trading him for Chad had to be a joke.

I still think this will all get done to everyone's satisfaction. Jerry and Stephen have mentioned wanting to keep him for so long now, I can't imagine they didn't account for his contract when they decided to keep Flo.

Akin can cry all he wants his play forced the Zach signing.

Zach had as many tackles as Akin did and he only played 5 games.

I asked the Saints fan about his tone. I'll post it when he responds. He's always recapping a bit what Newman says when he's on Sirius, and it always matches what this forum shows, just like this time. So all that's left is tone - he definitely said what k19 posted, or at least most of it.

It's just Newman letting it be known that it's time to start talking about contract. There is no surprise here. he's going to get resigned, and likely before the season is up, so that they can avoid him hitting FA (Just like they did with Romo and Ratliff).

Draft a couple this year and let Newman play out his deal. See what happens. If the draftees pan out, letting Newman walk might be the best thing for the team long term. CB salaries are getting out of hand.

This would work fine, and be great, if the two drafted guys are able to show immediately that they can be as good, or better, than Newman in their second year if we let them walk.

Now lets be real honest here...what are the chances of even one of them showing they're as good in one year? Pretty slim.

Yeah thats what I meant, I didnt catch the type-o until it was too late to edit it

he is not a "disgruntled" player, he's one of the best players in the league, not just on this team and has always beena good leader...he plays hurt and nobody covers people like he does...I cant imagine they will let him walk

To me they wouldnt have to show they were just as good in one year. If they were 7 to Newmans 10 then I would let him walk for the amount of money he's gonna get. Nothing against Newman but the amount of money CB's are gettin in FA is moronic.

Would you rather pay Newman 7yrs 70 million with 25-30 guaranteed or Hamlin something like 40+ mils over 6yrs (like average player Gibril Wilson got)

thats a no brainer...Newman >>>> Hamlin

I have a feeling Hamlin may not be here more than another season...and I am pretty sure there's no way RW and Hamlin are BOTH here past this season...if Roy doesnt improve he might be gone and then maybe they consider keeping Hamlin longterm, but if you are just comparing contracts and level of play for said contracts, keeping Newman over Hamlin and Roy is a better idea IMO

I could see Newman being resigned and Dallas letting go of Roy and Ken for cheaper options at the safety positions. I wouldn't be overly shocked if something like that played out.
