Check this out guys, I think the best thing was for this whole deal to fall through.

Why?

Because I think the sticking point was over if Reeves was considered part of the coaching staff or part of team management........Big difference.

If Reeves was part of coaching staff, he could be fired with the whole bunch if 09 is alot like 08. If however, Reeves is considered to be part of management and his multiyear contract was independent of the coaching staff, then that means if Wade and staff are fired at the end of this year, Reeves would stay on.

Problem is that Jerry may already be thinking about Shanny for 2010 and there is no way in hell that Shanny is going to come be HC in Dallas if freaking Reeves is the ghost GM.

So maybe this was Jerry basically telling Reeves to take a hike because he plans on hiring Shanny after Wade chokes away this coming season.

REEVES IN DALLAS MEANT NO SHANNY IN 2010, THAT IS WHY IT MAY HAVE BEEN FOR THE BEST THAT REEVES LEFT.......SHANNY IS STILL IN PLAY NOW!!!!

yeah but status quo staff/front office most likely means "status quo" results

I'm more worried about 2009 than 2010. Having Reeves involved gave me (and alot of others) some real hope that 2009 would not be a repeat of this season from hell.

I disagree.

First, I believe Dan Reeves quitting sends very peculiar signals to the Front Office, the Coaches and the Players. I believe it is just one more negative tidbit being reported about the Dallas Cowboys and eventually this negativity is going to affect the entire Organization especially if it continues into Training Camp.

Furthermore, with Dan Reeves out of the picture it seems as if the "Coaches and Personnell" are truely in place and we roll into 2009 with the same gang who can't seem to shoot straight.

Also, I believe Dan Reeves quitting after just a few days embarrasses the entire Dallas Cowboys Organization and don't think for one second that potential Front Office Personnell and Head Coaches in the future aren't looking at the Soap Opera Circus in Dallas and are extremely disgusted at what they are seeing.

If I was an up and coming "Football" guy or Coach I would't go anywhere near Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.

I hope you don't go through the entire offseason, the entire season, and then part of next years offseason, believing this. It must a long, painful wait to be disappointed.

I agree. Well stated.

This is not the best thing because of the way it's went down. The whole bunch of BS that has gone into this now, the speculations, etc. are never a good thing or a best way.

Shanny is not still in play. Nor do I think he actually ever was.

What is the sole fascination with this guy? Is it that he used to coach for the Broncos and we're the Cowboys, and "Cowboys" bust "Broncos"?

Stick that nose up in the air, sniff, that's the smell of a Colt, that's Tony Dungy. Why hasn't his name been mentioned since he's available and since we seem so interested in a "western" theme.

Shanny is nothing special, nor has he been anything special for quite some time now. So he had some success years ago with an Elway/Davis/Sharpe lead team. Not much ever since those 3 disappeared though.

If fact, he actually looks a lot like what we're relatively used to. Coaching a team capable of peaking at some point of a season, but never the right point, only to falter before the playoffs or just as they get in.

No thanks. I'll pass.

I'm not saying the Shanahan thing was a factor, but I do agree with you on the length of the contract.

I don't think Reeves went into it thinking it was a one-year deal. But, if Jerry is going to fire Wade either during the season or after it's over, I don't think he would necessarily want someone here that Wade wanted as a "consultant."

If he's not a retread, most people here will jump ship at the first sign of adversity.

If you have any way of proving this, then it's exactly what I suspected.

Once again, when a person says it's not about authority, the only other obstacle is compensation. Reeves wanted more guaranteed years, and Jerrah probably didn't want to.

Guys, I think Holmgren or maybe Shanahan are here next year regardless.

But it's funny, Galloway is putting a positive spin on this right now. He says he talked to Reeves this morning (and it sounds like he may have talked to Jerry, too) and he says Jerry was elated at the idea of having Reeves here. He says Jerry picked up Reeves from the airport himself on Sunday and immediately took him to the new stadium and was happy as can be at the idea of having him here.

And Galloway says that's a huge positive because it shows Jerry is interested in getting a tough guy in here to help him.

Now he admittedly can't explain why Reeves isn't here when Jerry was that excited about having him here... But he thinks it's a step forward that Jerry was so receptive to the idea.

I don't want a retread either. I want a young, bright, up-and-coming coach. But since we know that coach isn't going to get the authority he needs to run this franchise his way, because of Jerry Jones, we're stuck with a retread.

At least we know what Shanahan, Holmgren or Reeves can do. And their pedigree is enough to at the bare minimum instill respect from the older guys so even if Jerry Jones meddles, they have some carrots to pull out of their bag of tricks, based on their experience.

We're stuck, unless we elevate Jason Garrett. And who's ready to do that? And is he ready?

You mean excited like in the way a man gets excited when he finds out a beautiful woman is going to let him go all the way with her with minimal resistance and cost until said woman comes to her senses and wants a serious commitment before she gives herself? ;)

I lived in Colorado during the Dan Reeves era, he ruined possibly the greatest quarterback ever with his coaching. He was bull headed and refused to adjust to the changing times and schemes. We escaped this problem at valley ranch lets pray Jerry can do better. Sounds like I am whistling in the dark again. Go Cowboys
