I am not just being partial to the Cowboys game that was completely controlled by the refs.I watched a lot of football yestarday and the refs have completely taken over the sport.Last night two horrid roughing the passer calls on Manning gave them a TD basically. Its making this sport a mockery, its ashame.Almost unwatchable at points.

I agree, and the post game fines for infractions that did not get a call during the game are a joke. Even worse than the QB calls is holding--i see holding on almost every play and then they call 3 or 4 a game out of maybe 100.

Don't blame the refs completely. The rules tell them to protect offensive players, especially QBs. And they do. They do the best they can and a lot of the time they actually apply the letter of the law fairly closely.

Tell that to the ref watching Romo take a helmet to the head yesterday. The ref's have been flat out horrible this year in the NFL.

The only thing worse than them is Joe Buck... Other than those 2, the NFL has been great!! ;)

Officiating is horrid.

Some of them, like Ron Winter, are just incompetent.

But I think for the most part, officials are paralyzed by the vast # of judgment calls they have to make now. Roughing the passer, blow to the helmet, horse collar, tackling the QB at the knee... the rules have really gotten out of hand this decade.

The refs blow a lot of calls.

I think part of the reason is that the rules are overly complicated.

That and I think a call should have been made on the hit to Roy Williams last week, if your going to make a call against Ball yeasterday for the same thing.

The most bizzar thing to me was the punt the Panthers kicked to the Commanders yesterday where they pushed a blocker into the punt reciever making a fair catch and somehow got credit for recovering the fumble. I can't believe that is legal.

before the colts game, I woudl have said because the ball hit WEstrbook, that nullified any faircatch call. However, the same thing happend in the colts game. I guess if you are a blocker and are dumb enough to get blocked into your PR, then it is legal.

Holy cow... I agree with almost evey post in this thread.

The Competition committee puts in 5 or so new rules every year, and every year there's some ridiculous new rule that is made to benefit the offense.

Any touch of the helmet on the QB... they used to wear leather helmets.

Helmet to helmet on a QB... even if the QB ducks his head into it, you shouldn't have tried to hit him so high.

Horsecollar... TO gets injured and almost misses the Super Bowl, and all of a sudden there's a right and a wrong way to tackle someone from behind.

The Brady Rule... we all saw last week how ridiculous that call was on Suggs.

The bottom line is that there are too many rules. The Competition Committee needs to streamline the rule book. Right now there could be a penalty called every play. And the refs clearly can't see everything.

KC got a bogus defenseless WR penalty against the Giants last week. They get a makeup call this week against Ball. I expect a makeup call for us against Atlanta NFL. TIA.

how did you like the way the refs didnt call helmet to helmet when romo was hit by a chief player or how did you like horse collar on austin that wasnt called?

agreed. If your going to fine the players for calls not made during the game, they should fine the refs for calls not made/calls made incorrectly as well. I am sure if they started fining the refs, they would actually take their job/responsibility to the game more serious.

Every year in the beginnig of the season it seems the calls are often and questionable. I'll give them knocking off the rust and possibly setting the tone for a season of officiating but.................there is still no consistency. Something that has needed addressed for years now.

Let the guys play football. I find nothing worse than an officiating crew that dictates the game.

We get the fact people don't pay to see backups but for some reason these guys get paid millions for helmet to helmet contact. There are alot of professions (which most take off to watch NFL) that only make a fraction and do much more. This is almost like telling boxers no head shots. The fans want to see a good fight. Screw the pooch
