It never ceases to amaze me how the media can annoint someone as a featured player despite being nothing more than a sideshow...How is it that a RB that can't do better than average 3 yards per carry is constantly mentioned among the 'stars' or best RBs in the league?

Media...Beware

Over hyped. He has talent and is a threat, but he is not living up to the hype. Even if he was averaging over 4 yards a carry he would still not be living up to the hype. The way he is hyped up, he would have to average over 5 yards a carry and have a big 50 yard run every game. The media did go crazy about him. I see him being another Brian Westbrook, which is fine. A lot of teams could do well with that level of play. He is not even there yet in my opinion, but he is still young.

Very true, it's simply early for him...Yet, the media attention on him is nauseating, IMHO...I see these 'rankings' of best RBs and I see him in there and I think, why?

He reminds me a bit of Ron Springs, better receiving the ball than running it really.

For such a great threat, he does not seem to actually deliver. I have thought he was over rated from the day he went to USC. Unless he is in the same offense as a lot of other threats, he is nothing special. You put him on a team with a no name QB, WR, etc and see what he produces: I bet he would stink up the place.

Reggie will be fine once he gets it in his head that he doesn't have to dance around and try to take every one to the house, he's just hurting himself and should take what he's given. The big runs will come a lot easier then.

Well there's a dumb statement. Put him on a team with no talent and see how he produces??

The only guy I'm aware of who produced with little talent around him was Barry Sanders, and even he had Herman Moore who had a couple good years. Did you place the same requirements on Emmitt Smith??

The way the media licks his feet they make it appear he can do it and does do it by himself. Anyone with a brain knows that is BS. He is a cog in the machine- that is all. Way over rated.

he is 100% overrated, thats a fact. its not that he isnt a very good football player, but if it was up to the media, he would have been inducted into the NFL hall of fame already. vince is better, peace

OK, if he's overrated, who's your beef with?? It's not his fault you and the media expected him to be some all world RB in his first season.

But expecting him to be worth something without a good QB, WR, etc. is the height of stupidity.

just out of curiosity -what would it take to live up to the hype?

Who cares about the hype of Reggie, he's a great player but will have his off days! Point is their team as a whole could not prevent that *** beating they got on thursday! Peyton got me 29 points alone! I can not wait what barber, owens, and Cowboys D gives me!

It would take a lot. There is no chance he was ever going to live up to that hype. That is not his fault. He can only do what he can do. The media hype made it seem like he would get 2000 yards rushing and 1000 yards receiving in the same season and do it right off the bat. Like you said, the hype made him out to be superman and no one is superman.

Forget the hype and right now Bush is not producing what one would like out of a top 5 drafted player. I expect him to get better as he gets more acclimated to the NFL, but having a rushing average under 4.0 a carry is disappointing. I expect him to be much like Brian Westbrook and that is a compliment to both players.

Emmitt did play as a diamond amongst trash and managed almost 1000 yards. He also almost got 1000 yards in Arizona. That is a feat. :D ;)

Would BUsh be doing any better here? Better QB, his Oline is probably better, so I doubt he would be producing even as well here. It was not just the media that was over hyping him, it was also the NFL, which is not really suprising, but look at how many coaches and the like were saying just about the same thing. He was in what was perhaps the most talented offense in the NCAA history- or certainly top 10 anyway- and now suddenly even though he is with a very talented Pro Offense he is not producing anything like he was supposed to- even taking in the exagerated college stats you will get when you are playing low rated NCAA teams.

Thank goodness defensive coordinators around the league can stop worrying about him.

Reggie Bush is an amazing player but the NFL is an entirely different game. I'm not suprised he is failing to meet expectations. He played with a great supporting cast in a very weak conference in college. His collegiate career would have been far different had he been the starting RB for Ohio St. in which he is asked to carry the load and run between the tackles in cold weather.

It just amazes me the media and fans haven't caught on. There are so many undersized speedy backs that have failed to dominate at the NFL including Warrick Dunn. I don't think Bush will be a bust but he will never achieve the dominance he did in college.

How about just being a feature back who carries the ball 300 times a year and rushes for over 1200 yards and 10 TD's? That's not a Superman-like effort for a RB who was touted as the 1st player overall to be taken in an NFL draft.
