yet the Jaylon Smith pick is still hated. When he wins Defensive rookie of the year next year, im going to remember all of those comments.
Absolutely. If jacks career is over after his first contract and Smith is playing into his 30s will you remember this conversation? It'll still have been an unnecessary risk.
If another player who was on the board when we took Smith contends for the award *this* year, will you bump the thread too?

Bills already lost Shaq Lawson to shoulder surgery. Now Reggie Ragland, who many fans wanted, blows his knee out.

It's not so much the injury for me, although that was a huge risk, its that I'm not totally in love with the player. Add to that the other players that were available still....I'm hoping for the best but have extreme skepticism in relation to this pick.yet the Jaylon Smith pick is still hated. Oh wow, thanks for that. I thought rookie was like Baseball, meaning when you play your first season it is your rookie year. Didnt realize your a rookie whether you play or not. WEll, i retract that statement lolHe can't win rookie of the year next year, he won't be a rookie anymore, unless we cut him and put him on the practice squad. He signed his rookie contract, he's going to be IR or PUP (if he doesn't play) and the NFL counts that as a season, so his rookie status is gone.
It happened to Willis McGahee, he wasn't eligible to be Rookie of the year is second year despite not playing his rookie season, unless the NFL has changed that... lord knows they'll change anything at the drop at the drop of a hat.
How does one win Defensive Rookie of the Year in their second year? #i'lltakethatbet
My bad on this, didnt realize he is considered a rookie this season if he doesnt play. Either way, if this kid ends up being what he was at Notre Dame, and recovers fully. It will look like a stroke of genius by Jones to take the risk. Just my opinion,.yet the Jaylon Smith pick is still hated. If you do not play at all in the season I believe you are eligible for rookie awards the next season. At least I know in the NBA its like that. That's how Blake Griffin was able to win rookie of the year in his 2nd season.
Nope. Not how the NFL works, look up what happened with Willis McGahee, same thing and he wasn't eligible.
I believe it's because the NBA and Baseball have a D-league/farm system, where they can stash players, sorta like a red shirt. Where the NFL does not.

The NBA should have never let Blake Griffin win Rookie of the Year, now everybody thinks that's how the NFL works too.
