I guess it depends on how you view freedom. Physical freedom, or internal freedom.
.......
You don't understand!...and the posters that agree with you don't either!...I never said a dang thing about Freedom "only" in the mind!.....My main point was always, that we can lose our freedoms...People will always die for their countries, whether they have freedoms or not...look around the world! You seem to want to argue that losing freedom "can't or "won't" happen here!....Poppycock!....It's been happening for decades, and it's happening in the present!...
One of my biggest fears has always been ...that this generation gives up their rights and freedoms.... and the gallant heroes of the past die in vain!....The only way to keep that from happening is to keep freedom alive in the mind first!...without that...brave hearts have nothing to follow!....I'm threw posting to you now!.
You seem to want to take what I say in different directions...after you take a few classes in "critical thinking." maybe we'll chat again!
What is Memorial Day all about? Of course the answer it, paying respect and remembering those that paid the ultimate price for the freedom we all enjoy today. It is important to remind people that freedom was not and is not free. IMO, it's disrespectful to those ideas to then push the idea of internal freedom, which is free. Internal freedom is what people settle for when they do not have true physical freedom. It's not what we should be discussing other than to say it does not compare to physical freedom that has been paid for through the sacrifice of brave men and woman that are better people than we are.
This thread is more about the price paid for freedom and remembering the folks that paid it rather than the idea of freedom.I wish we could honor our armed forces without getting into the fighting for freedom idioms. Freedom isn't free is what Orwell would have called doublespeak. The idea of physical freedom vs the idea of freedom is silly. Freedom is a abstract concept. It means different things to different people.
