Plaxico Burress is expected to be charged with criminal possession of a weapon after shooting himself in the thigh Friday night. The felony chage results in a mandatory 3.5 year prison sentence.

"He went for his gun and fumbled it. And now it will cost him," a police source told the NY Daily News. Details continue to emerge, such as Antonio Pierce berating Plaxico for bringing the gun to a club. Pierce also stashed the gun for Burress and didn't call 911 at Plaxico's request, so he could face charges as well. Cops only learned about the incident after the Giants quietly reached out to them to report it.

I don't think we will be facing Buress in two weeks. With his gun shot wound and hammy plus a felony charge, LOL!

You know? With all the flack TO gets on this forum, we should be HAPPY that he's never even come close to getting in trouble with the law. Never, never, NEVER has that ever even crept his mind.

REPORT: BURRESS HAD NO CARRY PERMIT

Posted by Mike Florio on November 29, 2008, 11:56 p.m.
We explained earlier tonight that, if Giants receiver Plaxico Burress didn’t have a valid license to carry a concealed weapon in New York City, he is facing a mandatory jail term of 3.5 years in prison.
Per the New York Post, Burress does not have a valid New York permit. His Florida permit expired in May 2008.
Though the Post characterizes Plaxico’s maximum criminal liability as one year in jail, mayor Michael Bloomberg made it clear in 2007 that illegal possession of a firearm in New York City results in a much stiffer penalty.
“Last year, our Administration succeeded in pushing through a law that gives New York the toughest penalty in the country for carrying an illegal loaded handgun,” Bloomberg said in July 2007. “Now, if you are convicted, you will serve a minimum of 3-1/2 years behind bars — no exceptions.”
If the phrase “no exceptions” includes “pro football players who scored the winning touchdown in a Super Bowl for the New York Giants,” then Burress has a problem much bigger than the hole in his leg.

Pierce is big trouble as well. Buress and Pierce will be suspended ASAP by Goodell.

I expect Antonio Pierce to get charged too, since he hid the gun.

The part I find most interesting is that the team is the one that alerted the police to the incident. That speaks volumes to me. I think they have had enough of Burress and see this incident as a way to get rid of him with minimal impact of their salary cap. They have a few key players who will want large contracts and they will not be able to just dump Burress and take a big hit on the cap. Since he signed his big deal, he has been nothing but a pain in the *** and underproductive.

Me too! Find it interesting that the team got involved!

Expect the Giants to be fined big time.

Why would the Giants be fined?

If they are the ones who blew the whistle, I don't see how they would get fined.

I think the poster above is right. Looks like a way for the Giants to get some of that money. Going after the bonus.

From what I remember, Goodell, said that any player gets arrested that team would be fined, no exceptions.

I know that the team got involved but I think because of the nature of the incident they had no choice. JMO!

His injury wasn't football related. It won't cost them that much, according to
what I heard on a sports show.

This is just TOOOOOO much fun.

My guess is that the Giants will keep their focus...but they are not a better team without Burress...and if Pierce goes down with him...well, that would just bring a smile to my face.

We will see how things play out. Injuries are starting to pile up for the Giants as well.

That is really dumb to be in a club during football season and to have a gun in it
so therefore they both need to be charged for being idiots and not focusing on what they have to do

I was pretty sure that was in regards to teams who signed players with previous criminal backgrounds.

No way can anyone expect teams to be able to predict who the bad eggs are if there isn't a history.

I don't remember but I don't think the Falcons were fined for Vick.

Time for the commish to show he isnt biased with this junk. Burress has always been rumored to be a thug, he shouldnt see the field again this yr at all whether he can play or not. And if Pierce tried to help him cover it up, he should be gone too.

Living in NY, I am just SO tired of hearing about how great the Giants are.

Not saying they aren't...but I'm just tired of all the hype....they're already planning for the Giants Jets Super Bowl.

Falcons were not fined for Vick because it happened before the new rule.

I am not sure what is going to happen with the fines but Dallas was fined for Adam Jones, Why would this be any different?
