Another day, another round of surprising injury news for the Dallas Cowboys.

It's being reported new signee and defensive end/tackle Shaneil Jenkins' injury may not be as simple as many first believed. Jenkins has missed practice this week with what was listed initially as a hamstring issue, but according to 105.3FM The Fan insider Mike Fisher, it may be far more troubling than that diagnosis.

Well, the upside is, many seem to believe he would not make the team, and would be a PS guy, or lose him to another team. And if he did make the 53, only to possibly be released when the 2 suspended DE's return.
So that upside is to IR him, then see what he does next TC after and having a complete off season too.

Other than that, it sucks, as he could have been a decent stop gap type player those 1st 4 games. But i was not counting on that from some good preseason plays so far. But I do like what I see so far.

I was one who thought he wouldn't make the team but it seems like he may very well have been a factor on the 53 with his performances in the PS games. So if that's the case, that's a blow to an already weak DE position that has depth concerns.

The front office really did a disservice IMO to this great offense by saddling it with a half assed approach to addressing the teams biggest need - the ability to get pressure on a QB.

Stash that bad boy on IR and lets see him after a year in an NFL workout program.

Although he has shown some ability, he certainly could use some time to develop so I have no problem if it ends up that way. I know how much we need DL help but don't know how much he would have really been able to help this year anyway. He hasn't shown up as an end and I think he'd likely end up not dressing for games at DT with T. Crawford, Collins, J. Crawford and Irving all being able to rotate at 3-tech.

Exactly my thoughts on the subject.

So you said he wasn't going to do crap to help the team at all... until he got hurt and it looks like he won't play. So now, you're saying that he was going to help the team and it is a blow that he's hurt?

I don't know man... seems like you thrive on sowing discontent on here. Maybe I'm wrong.

What I think or feel about what kind of player Jenkins is meaningless. More importantly, the team liked him enough that reporters were saying he had a real shot to make the 53 as a DE. Now remove him, and that hurts depth at that position, does it not? You might have a guy that team wanted to keep, have a knee issue. That's a blow. How big or how small, that's up to you. I don't think we just lost a 15 sack guy to a potential knee problem but we just lost a guy that some on this board were thinking could be a surprise at DE.

I am not a big fan of Hitchens, but if he gets hurt, that's a problem. I think Church is mediocre to poor safety. But if he gets, hurt, that's a problem.

And damn straight I've sowed discontent about the DEs. I won't deny that at all. I've done it for months now. I think they botched the DE spots massively IMO. Even if everyone was healthy, the Cowboys were going to head into the 2016 season with ONE defensive end who has proven himself at a high level in the NFL - Lawrence. And he won't be around for 4 games.

Just disappointing that they built this OL, have such talent on O, talked about getting that SB for Romo is his waning years, and then after admitting their pass rush and defensive end play was subpar in 2015, they half assed it this offseason in trying to fix it.

Don't forget about Jack Crawford playing DE, he can be pretty decent stop gap guy for 4 games.

Yep -- we need to focus on those capable of playing for us and doing well, rather than lamenting those we can't have. It might work.

Exactly. Let him learn the playbook and add 20 pounds in the weight room and he will be a solid rotation guy next year. This year he is at the fringe of the roster, a development year will be a blessing in disguise.

I don't want him go gain 20 because might take away his best asset which is his elite quickness. As long as they just play him in the Nickel defense, he should be OK.

I read the article and didn't see any mention of what the actual injury is. I see a lot of comments here about him being on IR a year? Did I miss something?

I might consider using the DFR-IR spot on him. We all know that T. McClain is doubtful to make it past the half-way point of the season.
They did away with the designation part. One player can be brought back once eligible to do so.

Really? Cool. That is a much better option.

With the original rule, the designated player could not be placed on IR until after the initial but to 53 (i.e. he had to be on the 53 for a day then moved to DFR-IR). I guess that is no longer necessary?

If we lose McClain, though, we'll need more of a 1-tech unless we're willing to slide Collins to 1-tech.
