The New York Giants tried to play through the Plaxico Burress fiasco. After getting knocked out of the playoffs, they might be ready to bring him back.

"If everything goes all right, yeah," Giants general manager Jerry Reese said on Sunday, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Burress caught the Super Bowl-winning touchdown for the Giants last season but was suspended in November after accidentally shooting himself at a nightclub. The wide receiver faces two felony gun charges and could face more charges.

Giants quarterback Eli Manning suffered without one of his top targets. He completed 15 of 29 passes for 169 yards and two interceptions, without a touchdown, in New York's 23-11 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

"Your margin of error is way less when you don't have a guy with that kind of presence out there," Reese said of Burress, according to the newspaper, "so you have to capitalize on every opportunity you have and we were not able to make enough plays." Reese said that the Giants struggled to adjust to the loss of Burress, who had 70 catches for 1,025 yards and 12 touchdowns last season.

"Obviously, the guy has a presence when he's on the field. But do they have a Plax out there -- the Eagles? I don't think so," Reese said, according to the newspaper. "They have good receivers, we have good receivers. They made the plays, we didn't. They deserve all the credit."

Looks like we're not the only ones willing to turn a blind eye to retain talent. At least the worst crime T.O. ever committed was opening his yap.

Nothing like a little lack of success to change your perception or character. In the end,it's all about the money. If they do give Plax a pass, don't ever come back here if you're a Giants fan preaching pious platitudes about how the Cowboys are such a 'gangsta' organization.

Oh absolutely, and this is league wide. Not just the Giants and not just the Cowboys.

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!The Mayor of New York also spoke too soon. You know when he made that judgement he was deluded into thinking the Giants could win without him. They had a little win streak of two games, though the offense clearly suffered, yet the Mayor didn't realize they weren't the same team.

While I think that not having Burress was the difference in the game.

I am not suprised at all.

Give anything enough time and any team will try and bring back a troubled player or give 2nd, 3rd, or 4th chances... if its Cowboys its 7th, 8th and 9th chances lol

Manning threw a few passes that didnt connect that Plax CLEARLY would have caught. 3 passes that I remember without even rewatching the game.

Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't Plaxico facing a lot of jail time right now? I mean unless they manage some kind of technicality (based on celebrity), NY is very hard on gun laws... supposedly.

He's looking at years in jail over the unregistered/licenced guns.

I can't get over how so many people (including many in the media) were giving the NYG's credit for taking a stand and "doing the right thing" in suspending Burress. The guy shot himself in the leg, for Christ's sake. He wasn't going to play anyways because he wasn't physically able to play after SHOOTING HIMSELF IN THE LEG! They aren't so willing to "do the right thing" when he becomes available to play, though.

He wont spend 1 day in jail....guarantee they will work out some kind of plea deal that gets him probation!

We'll at least Mike Francesa isn't sugarcoating it. The giants won one game in his absence and only completed 1 TD to a WR in that span. I'm with DA HAMMER, the giants try to come off as the moral organization. When it comes down to it they're like everyone else.

Actually, they did do the right thing. While the accident itself rendered Burress unavailable 4-6 weeks, by suspending Burress, the team took a stand that it wouldn't pay him for the remainder of the year.

Furthermore, there's a difference between suspending a player pending a criminal investigation and receiving a player after he is legally exonerated.

Many teams (if not most teams) would receive a star player who was legally exonerated, especially if the crime is self-inflicting where only the player gets hurt.

Everyone's ready to jump on the NY Giants, but all the Giants said is they would consider him back provided he get his legal situation straight. I suspect he's going to do some time because it appears the case against him is pretty air-tight. Then again, even O.J. beat an open-and-shut case. ;)

What did Ozzy Osbourne sing about in the 1980s?

"It was a shot in the dark..."

Ooops.

Until that gets resolved, the G-Men can pretty much say what they want.
