Before he was cut by the Cowboys, former Dallas running back Joseph Randle had been gambling on sports, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Randle, who was released in early November, “had been involved in placing wagers on sporting events during the 2015 season,” the Morning News reported, citing four sources. He was also arrested Monday morning for speeding and an outstanding warrant.

An NFL spokesman told the paper that the league had not received any information tying Randle to gambling. Owner Jerry Jones told the Morning News that there was no evidence indicating Randle bet on NFL games, nor did the team suspect he “compromised any Cowboys games last season.”

Randle, who started the first six games of the season, was released after refusing to receive “outside help for his unstable behavior,” the Morning News reports. The report lists other incidents the team found troubling, including a “mysterious” phone call to police.

Randle was arrested last February for allegedly threatening the mother of his son with a gun. The incident also led to his arrest on marijuana possession charges.

Weeks after his release, Randle was arrested at a Kansas casino for allegedly assaulting an officer. He was also arrested for shoplifting in October 2014.

The team, the league and the players’ union have continued to offer Randle help since his release, though he has refused their assistance, the Morning News adds.

I know it's easy on this board to rag on this kid for a wasted opportunity given his physical gifts, and on our staff for trusting him as the starting RB, but it sounds more and more like he has some real mental issues (bipolar, paranoia, etc) that didn't come to the surface until the recent past.

I am far from a mental health professional, but he seems like someone who needs real support and it's going beyond a football story. I hope someone who is close to him gets this kid some help before he's a lost cause as a human.

This country is quickly adopting the "guilty until proven innocent" motto. What a slanderous allegation by the DMN, providing no evidence to back up their claim.

Still waiting on that Dez Bryant Walmart video btw.

LOL.

The guy is clearly a screw up. I don't need evidence from the DMN on his gambling issues to know that Joseph Randle is a guy with a ten cent head and a total loser.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Right now, you could tell me Randle paints himself purple and barks at the full moon and I would believe it.

The man has got to be one of stupidest individuals to have ever worn a Dallas uniform.

Although you may have a point you have to remember one thing. Fans of football generally care about football only. Football Players are a commodity, not human beings to fans. We only know of these people because they play a sport we all enjoy. Not to knock anyone because I am the same way.

See my role model post.

The Dallas Cowboys' decision to cut 24-year-old running back Joseph Randle was one of the strangest stories of the 2015 NFL season.

Startling report says 24-year-old player the Cowboys cut mid-season was gambling on sports and having 'delusions'

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/startling-report-says-24-old-143600897.html

Randle, the starter at running back, was having a lackluster season when some combination of personal affairs, injury, and insult caused him to disappear from the Cowboys' training facility when the Cowboys wanted to work out some issues with him.

Shortly after, the Cowboys cut him.

Now, a startling report from Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News says that Randle's life had been unraveling and that he had been betting on sports during the 2015 season.

George says four sources told the Morning News that Randle had been placing wagers on sports events in 2015. Combined with increasing signs of mental instability, the Cowboys eventually decided to cut ties with Randle.

With the report comes a bizarre story in which Randle called the cops in October over fears that his girlfriend was in trouble. From George:

Randle phoned the Irving police department at 12:35 p.m. on Oct. 28. Department spokesman James McClellan said the running back asked that police go to his home to perform a welfare check on his then-girlfriend, Avina Rodriguez. Randle told police he had found her cellphone in his car and was concerned that someone had broken into his house.

McClellan said Randle met the police at his home and handed over the keys for them to check inside. It turned out Rodriguez was at school. Since there was no suspicion of criminal activity, no report was written up, McClellan said.

McCellan told George that Randle" admitted to officers that he was having delusions... He said that he was delusional, that he was imagining the whole thing."...

I pray I'm wrong, but with his track record, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the news for committing a violent crime and/or committing suicide in the future.

Seems like he is just too unstable to function in society

I tend to agree with you. If someone doesn't step in to seriously help him, I see his story having a tragic ending.

It was pretty clear there was a real issue.

Stealing underwear? Repeated incidents.

And yet, somehow, this was the guy we chose to replace the league's leading rusher?

Say whatever you want pro or con about keeping Murray, that's irrelevant to the fact that the Cowboys front office and coaches believed that this was the guy to replace him.
