Obviously w/o knowing what's been discussed and/or agreed upon between Romo and the Jones', IMO I say hold on to him for the time being. Not sure the rush to cut him as I understand a lot of his cap saving wouldn't be realized until June 1 anyways. Further, there are also other ways to free up cap space from some restructures or parting ways with other, non-essential players.
There are many options for Romo and I don't necessarily see cutting him as an imminent must. There are sure to be many suitors for a top tier QB as the offseason progresses. Or we could have the best back-up QB ever, have a QB competition, have one of the best around to continue to mentor, etc etc.

Report: Texans won’t trade for Tony Romo

There’s currently a game of Texas Hold ‘Em going on with quarterback Tony Romo.
While the Cowboys are sitting on their quarterback in hopes of ginning up a trade (even after he’s said his goodbye to Dallas fans), the team considered one of the likely suitors is sitting tight.
According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans won’t trade for Romo, but would be interested in him in free agency if/when Dallas cuts him.
