Report: Torn ACL for Stewart Bradley

Posted by Mike Florio on August 3, 2009 11:53 AM ET

Howard Eskin of 610 WIP in Philly reports that Eagles middle linebacker Stewart Bradley suffered a torn ACL on Sunday night during a scrimmage.

He's expected to be out for the year.

Bradley became the starter last year at the position, and he was expected to be the primary signal-caller on defense this season.
==

This is a big blow for them. He was a very solid player for them last year.

I saw that he was hurt and they were waiting on the MRI, hate to see that happen to any player even on a team I dislike.

Omar Gaither should be able to hold the fort down, but yes this is a major loss for them. He was stepping up as a leader on that defense with the loss of Dawkins.

The defense is going to be the shining spot of the team this year, because whether fans want to admit it or not, that offensive line is going to be a lot less sturdy than last year.

So are the eagles still the most talented in some minds anymore?

Agreed. These are the kinds of bullets I hope we dodge.

Nono, we are the most talented, but the Eagles have the best roster in the NFL.

Get it right, fool.

Some of you guys really need to go over some rosters.

I think the fact that they beat us and the Giants at the end of last year still lingers in everyone's minds.

Yeah, they were hot to end the season, but they always seem to have that midseason swoon where they can't even beat the Bengals.

Careful there! Karma's a beyotch! Let's not take too much joy in our rival's misfortune.
Tommorrow we could be crying about a season ending injury to one of our projected starters.

Was I laughing or dancing on graves? This is quite a blow for the eagles defense. Not as big a blow when they lost Jim Johnson though.

Aint that the truth.

I mean give them all the dredit for playing their best football when it counted.

People have conviently forgotten that this team finished 8-7-1 last year, and need a big Dec to get there, they were sub .500 most of the season.

Their starting QB was actually pulled in a game! People all over Philly were screaming for Andy Reid's head!

But now they're in everyone's top 5.

Gaither couldn't even hold onto his starting job last year as Akeem Jordan beat him out. He might be alright, but he's hardly the leader Bradley was shaping up to be. Their other backup is Joe Mays, who was a decent college player, so that is another option I guess.

I would say they take a step down, but the Eagles seem to be interchangeable with linebackers and seem to get by with undrafted types, so we will see.

No but I sensed joy in your post. We have to pretend we're not happy to hear this type of news!;)

Hey, JMO. I'm not saying that roster is far better than others, but I think on balance, it looks very solid. That OLine looks beastly to me.
We may kick their tails and I do like our roster....but where is the weakness on theirs?

Their offensive line IS their weakness. You have one guy coming in with 11 sacks given up to replace a guy with 2 sacks given up. Then you have a headcase moving out of position to replace one of the league's best RTs for years in Jon Runyan, and then his brother also going out of position to guard.

I don't think they'll be able to hold up very long, at least not for this season.

And some who go over rosters need to be objective as to what they are looking at. They have always seemed to get by with unheralded active types prior to Bradley (Gaither was a starter at one time both inside and outside), so perhaps they are prepared. They certainly did not feel their LB depth was a huge issue as they only took one player in April.

We could lose Bradie James for the year and while an Eagles fan might get excited that we lost a starter, we would probably feel pretty good with Bobby Carpenter stepping up.

Wait, that didn't come out right.
