NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will likely allow Michael Vick to sign with a team and attend training camp, but the quarterback might remain suspended for the first four games of this season, ESPN.com reports.
"Can we suspend him in basically double jeopardy?" asked ESPN’s NFL source. "That's the question."
Vick is hoping he will not have to sit out the start of the season because that would hurt his effort to find a new team, according to the report.
Goodell is expected to announce Vick’s conditional reinstatement early next week.
SI.com reported Thursday that Vick met with Goodell on Wednesday afternoon at a small security firm in Allendale, N.J.
Goodell had said recently he would decide “sometime in the near future” whether to reinstate Vick to the league, but he refused to lay out a timetable. He had said that he first wanted to meet with Vick to see if the quarterback was remorseful and had changed his lifestyle.
Vick, whose home confinement ended Monday, had been suspended from the NFL indefinitely. As training camps start to open this week, he hopes to find a new team as soon as possible.
