Has anyone tried any resistance bands out there? Do they feel to light?

I'd like to have something like that without having to have 60 pound dumbbells laying around.

I have them for travel purposes. They have varying band strengths, but will work you out much differently than free weights. For example, when using dubbells for arm curls, you will have a much heavier upward motion and a lighter downward motion due to gravity. The stress from the band will be constant on the upward and downward motion, with the stress level getting higher the more you stretch the band. Same premise as a Bow-flex if you have ever tried that.

Beginning Resistance: Weights are much better, bands are at their "lightest" level of resistance.
Upward resistance: Weights are better, bands are tightening providing more resistance.
Apex resistance: Somewhat close match. If used properly bands are fully extended and will provide good resistance.
Downward resistance: Bands would probably be better because they are still pulling against you, while it is easier to let gravity work to assist you with the weights.

Hope that helps somewhat.

So is it like the bowflex in that 60 pounds of resistance feels a lot heavier than a 60 pound weight?

Hard to say for sure. The bands usually go from "light" to "heavy" because there are variables that make a weight level hard to figure out. For example, if you are 6'0'' tall and have a band wrapped around your foot to do an arm curl, then the heavy band will have more resistance for you at the apex than it would for a person that is 5'5''. Plus, there are some folks that will make a loop in the band and step on the loop to tighten it and provide more resistance, etc., etc.

I have them. I have Dumbbells as well. I like both for different moves and different reasons.

I like the Bands cause, to me anyway, they provide a much more smooth motion when doing the work. They don't seem as hard on your joints and such and I like that.

The one thing I dont like about them is there are certain moves, like over head presses, that I'm just not fond of cause they rub against the back of your arms when doing those moves and thats annoying to me.

So I use a combo of the two. I think that works best. As for if they feel heavier than the dumbbells...I think the resistence feels very different so it probably feels like it's heavier even when it's really not.

Well I bought some bands and was loving the exercise I was getting with them. I was shocked actually and they broke and I guess it was because of my height.

Anyone know of any bands that wont break for someone who is taller that doesnt cost a fortune?

Its to good of a workout not to have them if you dont have space for a weight set.

I bought these and they just snapped.

If they dont break than they will do great.

I was in shock with the kind of workouts I was getting with the cheapies I bought.

They have this attachment that you stick inbetween the door and close the doors and you can do pulls with it or different chest workouts.

Bands are great because you can do a bunch of different excersises and they dont take up any space.

60 dollars for bands seems a lot but you're basically getting a home gym.

I like using them in conjunction with free weights.

For example, on the bench press, use a light weight and the bands connected to the outside of the bar, running under the bench.

When you lift off, it will be fairly light, but will get progressively "heavier" through the lift.

I also like to use them with squats as well.

I don't do it all the time, but it's nice for variety and as platue busters.

Got them in the mail yesterday and used them this morning.

I think the max tension is all anyone would need unless your some kind of super strong guy who benches 350 with ease.

The TO Super Strong Man bands would just be a crazy amount of weight so save yourself the money.

I've never even seen TO himself use enough of those bands to warrant buying his version.

They give you a booklet with all the different exercises you can do and with the door connection the amount of exercises you can do is endless.

These bands wont break either. Very well made.

It gives you a bowflex workout and doesn't take up a ton of space.
