so i rewatched indy vs dallas........sober. being in football denial i decided to download a few games from last season. i remembered the pressure we got on the colts so i decided to rewatch the game and focus on our front 7. MAN did we blitz alot in that game! from the start of the game we blitzed early and often. ware, carp, singleton, akin, james, burnett even roy and newman blitzed a couple of times. mixing up the blitzes i even got fooled a few times on who was blitzing and who wasn't. the results were great. 1 pick6, 3 fumbles(2 recovered) and holding the colts to just 14 points. and to think we did this with killa keith freakin davis at fs. this got me thinking about all this talk about how good wade's defense is. we got excellent pressure in that game and this year we will have a few more blitzers. 1st round pick anthony spencer, greg ellis (did not play against indy, is returning from injury) and ken hamlin. not to mention a more expierenced bobby carpenter and a healthy and more expierenced kevin burnett as well. watching that game seemed like it was a teaser on what is to come from our defense this season. in other words, i can't wait till the gmen come to BIG D for the season opener. HERE COMES THE PAIN ELI!!!!!

Jarv, you can search around the various torrent sites for Cowboys games. There aren't many available, that I've found - and if you find them, there are generally very few people seeding the videos at this point - but that's where you look.

It was also my impression that we went after Manning hard and often and that was the key to our win. I believe Parcells believed the only way to win that game was for our defense to attack. If anyone has those games videos, can you compare what our defense did in that game against our defensive play against NO & those last few games? BTW: Who played OLB in place of Ellis in that game?

It's a little known fact, but we played Indy almost exactly the same way we played New Orleans. We just executed better against Indy's offense, which is far simpler and straight up than New Orleans. Peyton forced Ware to make the same coverage/blitz decisions that Brees did, by splitting a receiver or back out wide on Ware's side, but either (a) our LBs and safeties responsible for the vacated zone did their jobs against Indy, or (b) Peyton just never took advantage of their screw ups. I'm not sure which.

Indy plays offense alot like Dallas (tried) to play defense last year - just straight up beat you, man on man. It works pretty well for Indy, since they have possibly the greatest QB of all time calling the shots for them. We were executing very well at that time, and we got a few fantastic breaks. DeMarcus Ware played a great game at LB, and we won.

Burnett played at OLB in the Indi game.

I think it was Singleton, actually. Burnett was still out there playing in the nickel, but I think Singleton started at OLB.

I'll have to look again when I get home.

We also stopped the run against Indy. Our safeties played great. We tackled appropriately, and didn't let screen passes turn into 87 yard gains.

There was alot we did different on the field against New Orleans. But our method of attack wasn't any different. It was just far less effective as the year wore on.

That is the main reason why we won that game.

There is no "magic" in being aggressive. It helps quite a bit if the other team is rolling up their sleeves and daring you to beat them by blitzing. This was one of those cases where we actually executed that type of plan. And that is correct, we did do very much the same thing early against New Orleans but we did not execute it as well (particularly Ware). Payton also adjusted his attack to compensate and knew how to pinpoint our weak spots.

It is a misconception that we "could just play like we did against the Colts" and we would be great. You still have to execute. We just happened to do that in that game.

Early in the game we had Brees on his heels. After the reverse, it seemed to fall apart and snowballed. I have watched the game several times and it is amazing how the momentum shifted and just blew up.

Yep. Even before that, also - the offense was completely ineffective. Bad news when you're trying to play ball-control and keep the ball out of the Saints powerful offense. It didn't help that Romo decided to gift-wrap one to Omar Stoutmire when it was 7-7, or that instead of a big stop before the half on a 3rd and 20 that was overturned by official review inside two minutes - we got a personal foul on Parcells who was just trying to get the play to stop so it could be reviewed. (The correct penalty - just unfortunate and weird.)

That whole game was a nightmare after that INT.

I also watched the game on sunday and a couple things stood out for me.

Brady James just looked fat and slow.

The Saints learned from the colts. The TE and RB were eating us up in the flat. If Indy would have kept going there, they would have easily won the game.

Singleton was playing at OLB

That is just from the top of my head I will have to go and look at the DVR again.

Because Zimrod was the DC and Parcells was the HC.

I was there too and it was probably the best atmosphere at a game in the last few years.

They changed the start time and I'm not sure if people didn't know and got there early by mistake or if they just came early because it was a big game, but the parking lot was PACKED. The tailgating was great and there was a huge buzz.

During the game, the crowd was loud, energetic, stood the whole game, and actually seemed to make a difference. This is a far cry from the usually tame crowds at Texas Stadium. It was a great game to be at. I'm hoping we have several more like it this year. I'm thinking the New England game will be for sure.
