Because the old version of history on that site just stunk. And was a lie. And had no clue the 5-2 was still in popular use after 1950. Hey, it was the defense of the NFL winner from 1952-1955, but hard to figure that out reading the Wikipedia.
Still trying to figure out how to tell people that 4 man lines were occasionally used in the 1930s and 1940s. Sammy Baugh says he saw a 4 man line versus SMU in college, and there is plenty of evidence of its usage against the 1940 Stanford Cardinals. Don Faurot also has a 4-4 defense (a primitive prevent) to use against spread offenses, in his 1950 book on the split T and football in general.
