Rib cage muscle injury

I strained a muscle in my rib cage or thereabouts around 10 days ago...I have stayed away from playing golf to let the injury heal...today I went to the driving range and took some practice swings and everything felt fine..I lined up to take a real swing and immediately felt the injury aggravate...

I'm in a decent amount of pain..can't lean over, can't laugh, any normal movement brings a good amount of pain...

I guess my question is, is it possible something is torn and needs medical attention or is it more likely that it's just a bad strain and rest and ice should do the trick?

And even if I did tear something, is a doctor going to be able to do anything other than tell me to rest it?

Thanks in advance....

I believe all you can do is properly heal.

Ice. Not heat.

Heat will inflame it.

Ice and some small stretching. Left arms to sky together and individually. Arm stretched across body. Arms behind back.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured...seems like It's a very difficult injury to heal...I guess I'll just ice it and take it easy for a while...I figure I'll need probably a month or so for it to fully heal...

It's absolutely mind boggling that romo played professional qb in the nfl w broken ribs...

I have a muscle strain...maybe even tear...and I'm in a decent amount of pain...that dude is crazy tough

I fell backward during a guitar practice session, broke my guitar, and bruised my ribs and could not move around normal for about a week or two. It took three months to heal and that was after going to see a doc to make sure that I did not crack a rib. You cannot do nothing about it but take some over the counter pain medicine like Advil or something. Good luck!

Yeah. I have had what I call these weird injuries lol

It really is "time"
And wait a good while before you try full golf swings.... you literally wind up your core and let's the rest of the body whip around. Your rib muscles won't like that for a while. :)

I would imagine that rib bone won't hurt as much as muscle attached to rib. Less movement. I guess.

Probably best to at least have an x-ray to make sure there isn't a broken or cracked rib.

I had a similar injury, torn rib cage muscle, and it took close to a year for it to heal properly. Like yourself, it would feel fine then I'd do something to make it hurt again.

I have had the same thing before. It is extremely painful and takes a while to heal. Give it a little more time before you play golf or any activity for that matter this time.

I had a cartilage tear in between my ribs. Hurt like hell, but had to just let it rest.

Exactly. You should get an x-ray just to make sure that there is nothing broken or cracked. I understand your pain because I had bruised ribs before and it hurt just breathe. Rest was the only thing I could do to help heal.

Rib injuries take a long long time to heal. I bruised (possible fractured) my ribs playing basketball (to go along with a broken nose and a concussion) at the end of February. It still hurts my ribs when I lay on my left side. Saw an Air Force doctor last week and she said whether it's a fracture or bruise, it will take awhile and that the treatment for both is the same... time.

A lot of connective tissue in the rib area. Think about how long you should let it rest then double it.
