So the upshot of today's franchise tagging is this:

1. Kansas City tags Branden Albert, which makes it far less likely they take Joeckel or Fisher #1 overall. So maybe the first few T's get taken later. This trickle down may mean that maybe Lane Johnson, but certainly DJ Fluker is available at 18.

2. NE does not tag Vollmer, Cincy does not tag Smith, and Minny does not tag Loadhoalt. Those are three premier RT's that have just flooded the market. Now I suspect Vollmer and Loadhoalt will resign. But I would love for Jerry to cut Free (restructure Spencer and Romo) and take a run at one of them.

If we get out of this FA/draft with Lane Johnson, DJ Fluker, Vollmer, Loadhoalt or Smith at RT, I will be very happy.

Loadholt and Smith are a biscuit or birthday away from being too slow to play OT; although, I think Smith would be a dominant Guard.

If Loadholt played for Dallas, he would get called for holding on every play.

Vollmer had Back issues and could be forced to retire at anytime.

A cheaper more realistic option that I like is Gosder Cherilus. Nothing spectacular, but solid and relatively cheap. The Lions still have Backus at LT and just drafted Riley Rieff so Cherilus could very well be let go. Should cost less than 5M per year so won't break the bank either

.............NO..............NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO......I live in Michigan and have seen this guy play: he's only a SLIGHT upgrade over Free. He's big enough and can anchor but he's penalty prone and VERY slow...speed rushers eat him alive...

He graded out as one of the better RT's in the NFL last year. Didn't let up many sacks at all and committed few penalties. Sounds like the opposite of Free to me.

I'm not so sure this changes KC's thinking at #1 as Albert can slide over to RT. Premier pass rushers don't simply play on one side anymore.

I think it will change KC's thinking because hey signed Eric Winston away from Houston last year to play RT.

......I'll have to see a source or three to believe that. I just texted a friend of mine who is a huge Lions fan and he said he's "VERY" avg. and penalty prone. Said he's a bonehead but serviceable. He also said Reiff, their #1 pick from last year is being groomed to take over LEFT tackle for Jeff Backus who is ancient. They're planning on keeping GC at Right Tackle: much to his dismay.

I think he is as good as Doug Free and he's been playing for 1.5M per year. He is a backup in Atlanta that threaten to overtake the starter. He started 10 games in 2011 at LT.

KC will still go T with their #1 pick. You just don't pass up on the opportunity to draft a surefire dominant LT like Joeckel or Fisher. Not to mention I think KC's defense is very talented and young. They just need a year or two to gel...it's a process

So if KC franchised Albert and still plan to go Joeckel #1 I wonder if they would make Winston available? Would anybody be willing to give up our 2nd to get Winston? You know what youre getting from him and he's locked up for 3 more years at a fairly reasonable #. We could still go OG in round 1, and S in round 3 and be looking much better for next year.

A line that looks like this would make the entire offesnes A LOT better : LT- Smith LG- Jonathan Cooper C- Costa/Bernardeau RG- Livings RT- Winston

KC is going to take less than market value to trade down for and try to collect as many picks as possible. Remember how much Andy Reid loved to trade down and collect picks in Philly? They were rivaled only by New England in stock piling picks. Andy Reid loves everything about the draft and the draft process, and he loves finding mid and late round guys.

Plus they just gave up there 2nd rounder this year so they are going to have to recoup that pick.
