Now - first and foremost, just here me out. I am not even sure if I have a point here but I may. Im sitting here watching ESPN News- and they are showing the highlights of tonights Sox-Yanks game. To make a long story short 3 batters were hit during the game...and in the 9th the benches cleared. It is CLEAR to everyone that these TEAMS flat out dont like eachother. While everyone on here KNOWS who the cowboys rivals are - it seems to me that the rivalry between Dal-washington or Dal-Philly is more of a fan vs fan rivalry rather than players/team vs players/team. Does that make any sense? Now I am not sitting here condoning that the cowboys go out and fight other teams , what I am saying is it does not appear to me that the cowboys players hate the skins players or eagles players and we do not see it on the field. In my opinion it would make our rivalry vs washington and philly a little more heated if it got to that level and after watching the yanks sox get to this point - I kind of like it and wish we had it.

Am I missing or forgetting about a few instances that have occurred recently to show that we do have this rivalry? Am I foolish for wanting this? or Do I have a point?

Free Agency killed that.
Yep.

I used to love the trash talk and anger of the 70's and 80's rivalries. And even in the Super Bowls we didn't win "Terry Bradshaw couldn't spell 'cat' if you spotted him the c and the t." And Buddy Ryan putting a bounty out there.

the sox and yankees have been meeting each other A LOT in the playoffs the last 10 years. thats where that comes from. I dont think the Yanks liked pulling off the biggest choke job in sports history against the Sox a couple years back much either.

the reason why the Egles hate us lately is because we used to kick their butts in the playoffs while we were winning superbowls and i think it was the same for us and the skins the decades before that.

regular season is just regular season and until we start getting to the playoffs with regularity again there wont be much true hatred.

NFL Rivalries aren't anywhere close to what they used to be. Toned-down versions still exist, though.

Several reasons, including: Players of different teams often share the same agent. There is much player movement secondary to free agency.

I think there is still some sense of rivalry between the players. I remember during Ware's rookie year, some of the Commanders' players calling or texting him to try and intimidate him or something... (I think it was the Commanders)

To the thread's author: More specifically, it's more of an older fan vs. older fan rivalry. Younger fans identify moreso with the players while older fans have stronger loyalty for the franchises themselves. The league's fanbase has slowly developed a more homogeneous appreciation for game matchups over the last 15 years. No longer is it more 'us versus them'. It's now more along the lines of 'my favorite players versus your favorite players'.
