I think most people know I'm all for gambling on talented players with character flaws.

I was in favor of taking risks in signing Adam Jones, Tank Johnson, and even doing that in the draft if the talent was there.

Last year, I reversed course and wanted nothing to do with Burfict [spelling?]

After watching the talented guys with character issues flame out either in Dallas or elsewhere, I noted how low the success rate was.

I like the talent.

But would prefer to pass (not to be confused with puff, puff, pass).

I have to be honest here. I was a big fan of his talent and abilities and I thought he should be an option for Dallas in round 3-4. But I was listening to a segment about him yesterday that has me scared away. Since he is in Florida and doesn't trust himself to stay away from weed, he gave his car and cell phone to someone else so that he isn't tempted to drive to his weed spot or call someone to bring him some weed. Then he said himself that he was having a really bad day, stuck somewhere waiting on his ride to pick him up and didn't have his cell phone. All he could think about was getting high. This is not just some ordinary weed smoker; this kid managed to get addicted, and that is not a good thing. Worst is that he doesn't even trust himself to make the right decisions so he limits what he has control over. That doesn't sound very good for a player that will have all eyes on him.

Notably weed isn't physically addicting, which when combined with what he has risked and cost himself so far indicates that either the kid has some major, major undisclosed medical issues, or more likely that he has absolutely no impulse control at all.

He sounds very dumb to me. They make it easy to pass those tests and he still managed to fail multiple times. The NCAA and the NFL to an extent are fairly lenient when it comes to pot smoking. It says a lot about a player when they fail a test or a dozen and get suspended.

I don't care about the chronic. This is the next Ed Reed or Darren Woodson.

This means Mo and Carr can man-up and funnel everything in the middle for this kid to clean up.

He is the playmaker that creates problems for the offense and will make this defense work.

If you have to trade up and get him, do it. This is top five talent that likes a little bud.

Like the rest of the locker room doesn't.

Work FA and get another lineman, but get this kid first and foremost.

I think this is one of the few times 2deep and I have agreed on anything. Cowboys need more playmakers. There are enough RKGs on the team right now, Jerry needs to get himself some brass ones and go all in.

What an idiot if that's true.

First off the hypocrisy of pot being illegal and yet booze is legal is another aspect of this country having it's head up its rear.

So as far as him wanting to smoke pot, I don't find that to be as big an issue as some.

But go watch the videos of this kid play.

What is the expression? He is a baller.

And, his college coach brought up an interesting stat that bears repeating. he scored a TD every third game as a defender.

This team needs play makers. RKG is fine at the company picnic.

But Dallas needs people who can deliver when the game is on the line. regardless of the opinion here, this young man is a football player.

What makes you think he's going to stay clean? Doesn't matter how much of a playmaker he was two years ago. If he's booted from the league, he does us no good. Stop being so seduced by his talent, and look at the person for who he is. And you can cry about the hypocrisy all you want. Doesn't change the reality.
