Heard this on the Fan just a bit ago. They did not have the 2 players names, just that they were at camp.

Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain (Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports)

Linebacker Rolando McClain and third round pick Chaz Green have been placed on the physically unable to perform list to start this camp.

McClain did the majority of his offseason work away from Valley Ranch. He had a scope on his right knee in June and was hit with a four-game suspension by the NFL in July for a violation of the league’s substance abuse program.

Green underwent hip surgery in June. The rookie offensive tackle out of Florida was limited by the hip during the Cowboys offseason program and spent the majority of organized team activities on the side doing rehab.

I think this was pretty much expected as far as I know. They'll be eased into the action at TC but I do think they'll be okay.

Hopefully the Cowboys can find a way to make any lost pup games also count towards the 4 game suspension (if it comes to that)

This was to be expected TBH. I hope Green recovers quickly because I see him, with the right development taking over for Free one day. McClain, I'm honestly expecting the worst out of this year as far as production. If he goes out here and has a 15 tackle game, with a fumble recovery or a turnover then great, but I won't be surprised to see him on the sideline more often than not with some kind of "injury"

I wonder what the prognosis is on Chaz Green for how long he'll actually be out of action?

Will he be ready in a week or two, or is this a prelude to an IR/redshirt season?

you really just want McClain for stretch run at end of season (assuming Dallas is in playoff race). If Ro can play like he did at beginning of last year for atleast last 6 games, Dallas will get big shot to arm.

It wouldn't shock me if he ultimately doesn't play a snap again for the Cowboys. He's that much of an unpredictable enigma in my opinion.

As deep as this team is, I have no problem with Green being the first high profile candidate to be IRd for the season.
The IR is abused league wide, and Green will have some quality company finding their way to join him by the time camp is over.
Its just a more protected version of the PS.

Ro is a very important piece for this defense IMO. It was night and day vs. the run when he was in and when he wasn't. Lee is a great player, but I don't feel he brings the same kind of physical play to our defense that it seems to lack when Ro is out. I really hope that he can have a productive season for us.

Why do they have to do this? This means nothing.

Training camp PUP is not anything like regular season PUP.

Actually, it's nothing like the practice squad.

IR allows the team to avoid putting a player on waivers, and it also protects the player from losing his job over the immediate roster needs of a team during midseason.

And a practice squad player can be signed by any team at any time.

I think Rolando will be just fine. He played one of the toughest positions and his game is very physical, which resulted in him getting nicked up. Now he needs a bit more time to recover. And from my understanding (I could be wrong), his violation of the substance abuse program was him not taking a test, not failing one, which apparently carries the same penalty.

Him missing/failing a test is a head scratcher for sure but I like to think if his head and heart wasn't in it, he wouldn't have signed up to play again this year.

I'm torn on the possibility.

On one hand, he gets a year to fully recover, learn the NFL game, and work in an NFL style strength and conditioning program.

On the other hand, he's out for the entire season and the team loses a year's worth of his rookie contract wages.

Also, I think Laurence Gibson's fate is tied to Green's this year. I think if Green stays on the 53, we'll end up losing Gibson.

lol,,Im well aware of the difference between the PS and the IR, I was speaking in how professional franchises "actually" use both in order to retain talent legally.
Sure there are legitimate designations, but league wide, all teams abuse both as farming systems in order to protect as much as possible, future prospects.
And no, a PS player can not be signed by any team at any time, the said players team has right of first refusal, and can resign and add that player to their 53 if they choose not to loose that player.

Yeah, now that you mention him, Nzeocha surprises me too.

He will be next to join Green, check back in a couple weeks. McClain holds too much value, 6 weeks on pup and back in the lineup.
