The first game is over a month away and already people are jumping off the cliff in masses. Hamstrings are more problematic in the beginning when you first start TC. Even a mild twinge is worth resting at this point in the season rather than risking a tear when you haven't even begun the season. Players play the whole season with injuries of some sort because it matters. Now is not the time to push through injuries, it's time to get ready for the first game. McFadden is a veteran and doesn't need as many reps and he is a speed guy which generally have more hamstring problems.

Can we just wait until he misses the first game before we jump?

While I wouldn't consider myself a defender of his, I would say this is nothing. McFadden was not brought in to carry the load like Murray did last year, he'll be primarily used on 3rd downs in a similar that Murray was, which is a check down option for Romo. He'll be used to spell Randle a lot more than Randle was used to spell Murray, but I never expected more than a handful of carries for McFadden per game.

Yeah, but at this rate, mean you even count on that much? He's arrived in Dallas, not with a bang but a whimper.

Yep. Seeing as how he's had a sign of vulnerability so recently, it doesn't bode well for an extended period of health. I've had several hamstring pulls in the past and former tears are always awaiting repeats. It's really an extremely delicate situation. My expectations for him are quite limited. A handful of carries per game sounds about right. Even then, there's plenty of room for doubt he'll last long.

Mine too. And you have yo wonder how the team will handle it? Do you keep only 3 running backs and then hope for the best when McFadden is inevitably hurt? Do you want to have to count on Dunbar and his own history as your backup?

This only strengthens my resolve to do something else at this position.

If I'm Will McClay, I'm on the phone to John Elway asking about Montee Ball.

on paper, we have 1 weak spot (RB) and we start with it getting weaker...not worried yet

I'm strongly anticipating a move being made at some point around the final cuts. This RB situation as it now stands isn't anywhere near as reliable as it should be. The probability of injury and the talent level seriously requires bolstering. I'll be extremely disappointed if a meaningful move doesn't materialize. Give me Montee any day.
