Before David Letterman got to shave Ben Roethlisberger's beard Monday night, he got the Steelers' Super Bowl-winning quarterback to admit a little something that might rankle Seahawks fans even more.

Then yesterday on the Jim Rome show he said he looked at the tape and thought he "did get in"..On Letterman he said he told Cowher he did not think he got in and up to that point that was his take.

Probably someone told him he may have caused more Seattle frustration with the comment and he changed his tune a few days later on the Jim Rome show. It is also possible he could have actually looked at the tape and changed his mind. Though it is neither here nor there at this point.

Maybe next Super Bowl he SHOULD stop going out and getting hammered and play better than his what 22 QB rating?

I think the QB rating is out the window here.

He was smart about some plays and bought time and made SOME BIG plays. Thats not a stat. It just counts towards the Win.

I don't think he could tell either way, just like the rest of the world. It was a matter of 1 or 2 inches -- maybe less. How could he possibly know where the farthest point of the ball and the invisible plane of the goal line each were at the instant he got clobbered in mid-air?

That's why it went to replay where they watch 10-20 times in slo mo and freeze frame.

I'd say that he knew he wasn't in at the time because he was quick to push the ball across the line after he was down. It must have worked too because initially the ref was signaling that he hadn't made it then changed his mind and called it a TD.

When I watched the replays it looked as if the ball might have crossed the plane of the goalline by maybe a half inch at most but it was far too close to call. I didn't think he was in when I watched it live.

Then Ben takes the ball from under him and slides it across the goal line and THEN the ref signals TD. First of all if it is that close it is NOT a TD. Secondly, that is the first time I've ever seen a booth review a call outside the two min warning without a challange being made by the opposing coach. That tells me that something stinks.

Why risk the integrity over the game over the possibility of selling some more jersey's or towels?

What cost more:

A) Having Seattle win?

or

B) Tarnishing the integrity of the game forever?

I've seen the late call on the goalline in at least 10-15 other occasions.

This grassy knoll scenario is so played out.

that was within the last 2 minutes of the first half, so it was a booth call.

Hopefully that was his first and last Super Bowl. If he keeps drinking and partying the way he does and riding a motorcycle without a helmet it might just be his last.

The ref wasn't running, diving and getting clobbered in mid-air, and he had to say it was one thing or the other. He couldn't just say, "It's too close to call." And he wouldn't be any more or less correct if he had said Roethlisberger didn't make it. The replay review wouldn't have been able to overturn it either way, because it was so close.

They didn't need to stop the game to review it again. Jackson's second foot obviously came down out of bounds. That was more than evident on the first replay, which they saw before the Seahawks lined up for their next play. There's no reason to delay the game unnecessarily when it's that obvious.

Do you think Gretzky's wife bet on the steelers or tanked to the seahawks, honestly do the hawk fans forget about the other screwups the team made like missed field goals, interceptions, etc. it wasn't only the refs, here there was some crummy play by the team too...
