Report: Big Ben's Achilles' tendon not believed to be torn

I said on a radio spot today (I think it was today, maybe it was yesterday) that we can make all the predictions we want about the coming football season but that the only certainty is that there will be injuries and that some of them could go a long way toward determining the outcome of the chase for the Lombardi Trophy.
Last year, for example, the Patriots were thrown rudely off course in Week One, after quarterback Tom Brady was lost for the year with a torn ACL.
The Steelers nearly suffered that same fate today, on their final day of training camp practices in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
Jim Wexell of Scout.com, via his Twitter account, reports that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has an injury to his Achilles' tendon that, for now,
appears to not be a tear.
The only prescription for a torn Achilles' tendon is more cowbell season-ending surgery.
Per Wexell, Roethlisberger is now able to walk (he's still limping). Roethlisberger told someone, "I'll be all right."
Given Ben's reputation for being a drama queen, that's a powerful statement. And it indicates that, for now, the Steelers have dodged a bullet.

Down goes Roethlisberger

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered an injury during practice on Thursday, and he currently is being tended to by trainers.
Per our buddy Mike Logan of ESPN 1250 in Pittsburgh (yes, the same Mike Logan who played for the Steelers and West Virginia University), left tackle Max Starks fell and rolled up on Roethlisberger's leg.
Logan advises that, according to ESPN 1250's Ken Laird, Roethlisberger's leg is "heavily wrapped" and he couldn't put pressure on it when trying to stand.
Coincidentally, the injury occurred on the day that typically includes an "unexpected" break from practice, a tradition started by former coach Bill Cowher.
But there was no "Movie Day" this year; instead, the Steelers concluded camp with one more session of two-a-days.
"
Just a little mental warfare," coach Mike Tomlin said after the morning session. "Sometimes people need to be horribly disappointed and then asked to perform. And they did pretty well."
As Mike Logan said, "I bet you they are thinking Movie Day would have been a good idea now."
UPDATE: Initial indications are that Roethlisberger has an Achilles' tendon injury, but that
it's not torn.
