Word from Schefter is that Goodell's contract is virtually a done deal.

Seems weird that this story is breaking the day after word got out that Jerry might sue the owners on RG's compensation committee.

i could do Roger's job 1000 times better and would be happy to take 1/10 of the pay, my first initiatives would be

1. Eliminate Thursday Night Football
2. Eliminate London and Mexico City games
3. Simplify the catch rule

there are about 7 other things i could list, but those 3 are a good start

1. - owner driven - Owner's felt they were being short changed because Dallas and detroit got to play every Thanksgiving. It has over saturated the game so I agree it needs to go but don't think the owners want it to go. So since you work for them, you wouldn't want it to go either
2 - Again Owner Driven in an attempt to broaden their viewership and make more money. No chance these go away anytime soon. Again, you work for the owners, so you would be out there promoting them.
3. Good luck.

I liked Schefter.

But he does seem like a NFL stooge, either by design or he's too dumb to realize the NFL uses him.

I am sure he knows it; and does not care as long as he gets paid

TNF consistently gets bottom of the heap matchups in a primetime slot. Not only does this cause over saturation, there is no substantial evidence that TV viewership ratings on TNF correlate to any discernable increase in revenue. It's dumb, brings no value, and the players and fans hate it

You got me on global expansion, yes the owners are probably pushing it. I don't see it being viable imo, but as commish I have to try

Catch rule: 2 feet in bounds with control = catch between the 20s. Caught at or near the goal line = once it breaks plane it's a catch regardless of going to ground

Good. Now Goodell has a taste of his own medicine. He's like a pesty fly that just won't go away. First the Pats, now the 'Boys.

Checks and balances at its finest...I'll bet something drastically changes at some point to appear closer to a true judicial system.

The NFL was set up to virtually print it’s own money. It was the sport all other sports wanted to be like. He had one job, basically, don’t mess with what is working and everyone is fat, happy and rich. Well guess what? He has managed to put all that in jeopardy and now he wants a raise and extension?

This is the plot for Godfather 3, Goodell is Joey Zaza.

"I say to all of you, I have been treated this day, with no respect. I've earned you all money. I've made you rich, and I asked for little. Good. You will not give, I'll take! As for Don Corleone, well he makes it, very clear to me today, that he is my enemy. You must choose between us."
―Joey Zasa[src]

Holy crap this is a great point.

There is now doubt that the owners have prospered over the last several years, and that Goodell has been in charge. But it's hard to say that he has been the contributor for that, and easier to say that he's also hurt the product long term.

1) He's been given credit for spearheading the current CBA, which no doubt benefits the owners, but it's created a ton of controversy.
2) This controversy is going to make the next negotiation a NIGHTMARE, because Goodell has taken advantage of the clause.
3) Domestic abuse and drug policy are both issues that are harming the NFL as a product
4) Some day, somewhere, somehow, there is going to be a collusion suit. When that happens, the entire CBA and Anti-Trust excemption come at risk - and that's really really bad for the owners.

Dallas and Detroit agreed to always play on Thanksgiving back when most teams didn't want to play on the holiday. Now they're *****ing at us for taking the game they didn't want.

I don't disagree with your view on TNF at all. I hate it and rarely watch it myself. Just saying, it's owner driven and I doubt it would go away anytime soon. And as Comish, you being paid to push the owner's agenda, not create the agenda for the owners.
