One qualifier would be which Era would they be competing in. In todays era where everyone (Except Tony) could play in skirts or back in Rogers time when you could still mug the QB (and the WRs)

If it is this era then the gap narrows. If you are talking the mid 70's Peyton would not last very long.

I would take Marino over Manning in this era and Roger all day, everyday.

this is a popularity question and ESPN and their ilk do it a lot, because they dont know the sports like they should. some of them.

Different eras, different qbs. You cant claim Manning is better because rules have changed the game dramatically. we are not talking one snippet here or something little here, we are talking a whole shift.

The next question becomes on which team, the team Roger played with or the team Peyton played on. So on and so forth.

Stupid popularity question. Basically to guage where their fans are and how to cater to them.

wow. just wow.

I never said Marino was a better QB(especially as a pure passer) that Payton, just that I liked him and think he would do well in today's game. I have enough disdain for Eli that some boil over to Payton.

I'll say it for you then. As a matter of fact, I'll go out on the old limb and say Marino is in the running for the best pure passer ever. Where Manning has him beat is in the "coach on the field" stuff, but throwing the ball? No.

Roger was the best quarterback of a tougher era with better defenses. Peyton is the second-best quarterback in an era weakened by free agency, salary cap, and rules favoring passing. Roger left the game as the second highest-rated passer in pro football history. It should be Roger.

With Peyton, a lot of things has to go right.

He needs to have a great Oline and running game. If he has both, he is one of the best.

When both fails, he struggles (ie Steelers playoff game in 06 is a perfect example). What I also remember after that game is he put a lot of the blame on the Oline during the post game interview.
