Constant issues!? The dude balled for us last season after getting off his couch.

This is his first suspension as a Cowboy cuz the guy smokes some reefer and people want his career destroyed? Not only that, but the dude is playing for pennies compared to what he would be worth healthy for 16 games. The Cowboys are going to stick with him at minimal cost until he either crashes and burns or pans out, and a 4 game suspension is routine nowadays in the NFL

He's playing for pennies because he's an unreliable head case who smokes pot. This is his second such incident in Dallas, the first being the four game pay suspension. And the season didn't start yet.

Pot, retirement, head not right. Soft tissue injuries. Missing practices. House fires. He's pretty much the definition of 'constant issues.'

That said, he's still worth keeping around this year (and this year only) since we need players and he's inexpensive.

Suspend him 15 games, he will still be awesome for that 1+. No judgement for as long as he's wearing the Star and he didn't hurt anyone.

Exactly right.

I don't see any harm in keeping him.

That is exactly what happened.

1st fail- warning, enter program
2nd fail- 2 game fine
3rd fail- 4 game fine
4th fail- 4 game suspension
5th fail- 10 game suspension
6th fail- 1 year suspension

Datone Jones got 1 game. How do you get a 1 game suspension??

Of course.

And the folks that post "He's not worth the headache".

Well only the Cowboy's hierarchy will determine the amount of headache they'll accept and my impression is that they will accept quite a bit.

He costs us a roster spot. With a $500k signing bonus and a $1.2M roster bonus. If the other LBs deliver, we could cut him and still have a high likelihood that he's available week 5.

What an idiot this guy is.

This guy does not really care about playing football (for the team accolades). Football is simply a means to live by while dealing with his demons. I'm almost willing to bet that he won't pass his next physical before the 4 game suspension is over. I truly think he's done either way. Too many strike a no outs.

This guy makes it really hard for me to pull for him. It's crazy the love/hate thing I have for the dewd. He's a guy you wanna like and give this one more last chance to, but dang.....Wish he wasn't so loaded with talent and ability. Cause it's something else watching him play.

He probably doesn't even care too much, since he wasn't getting paid for the first 4 games anyway.

That would show a serious lack of mental bandwidth since he will now is getting paid for those 4 and these 4 too

Dude you want more of this? Draft his replacement and be done with him after this year. You have to be a JJ Watt type of talent to deal with his constant issues.

Draft his replacement? We had ample opportunities to do so, and it clearly isn't something that's at the top of their priority list. They've all but admitted, by way of their actions, that they think they can plug-and-play just about any LB in this defense. He is to being a headcase what Sean Lee is to being an injury issue, why not cut Lee too, he's probably more unreliable with his injury issues than McClain is with his off the field issues.

But the Cowboys will not be stuck for his salary while he's suspended. So no loss there.

And with a roster of what... 90 at this point. Even with the suspension out there, no doubt he's still a better player than many on the roster.

You forgot my favorite of them all. Menacing with a gun in Alabama a couple years ago. This guy doesnt have the brains to come in from out of the rain.

Anthony? I'd like someone bigger in the middle longterm.

Not time to worry about long term now
Save that till the next off season
Jasper gives you good size and is a solid run defender with hitch playing some and the NICKLE
You bring him back when you can and decide what to do with him next year after the season

Its funny how some Cowboy fans (or fans of other teams) will defend someone just because he's a good player, but if its another team, they're all for punishment

I'm not advocating cutting him, just looking at the options. But if he's got 2 dings in the last 4 months already, and you're looking at paying him $1.2M if he makes the roster, you have to be asking yourself what's likely to happen the next time he's tested. You cut him now, you limit your exposure. Nobody else is going to pick him up if they have to sit him for 4 weeks, given his history.

So, basically, if any of the other MLB options look good in camp, you'd think we'd be considering just moving on. I know I just said he's too good a player, but the fact that the biggest chunk of his coming money was a roster bonus tells me the team was probably sort of considering he might knucklehead his way off the roster prior to the season starting. And this is about as close to knuckle heading off a roster as we're likely to get with the second failed pot test.

Just keep him away from Gregory, while we're at it.

No harm in keeping him for this year, but he'll never get a multi-year deal. He just doesn't love football.

IMO his demons are a little deeper than weed although I believe weed is just an ill attempt to escape those demons.
