I think he's a guy you sign, but I think he got cheaper. The emergence of Hitchens, too, gives us options it didn't look like we had earlier in the year.
And I personally still think our best two LBs were out for the year after Durant and Lee went out.

Tough situation with McClain. obviously struggled with injuries. you have to wonder did the year being retired have an effect on how much of a season his body could handle?

the last couple weeks though being head injuries is worrisome. probably shouldn't have even been active today.

i don't think he gets a long term deal but i would see if you could get him on like a 2-3 year deal for a lesser $$ amount.

we'll see what happens, but we can all be pretty sure that our defense is going to be addressed this offseason regardless if it's our guys resigning or not.

Out again after a few plays today.

He wasn't the same guy in the 2nd half of the season.

Is this a guy the Cowboys can rely on next year? It's a big offseason decision.

Mods -- please fix my title and change Roland to Rolando. Thanks!

If we only have money for one big contract for a LB this offseason, I hope it goes to Carter.

His play fell off so much I wonder if he lost "Comeback Player Of The Year" award.

Slightly off topic, but once McClain came out, it was maybe 90% nickle defense. We need some depth at the linebacker position because it seems the staff is more comfortable with a fifth DB than a third string linebacker.

I want him back, because when healthy he's arguably our best defensive player.. but not on a big contract. Too risky. It will be interesting to see how we handle this. I think we bring him back though.

I want him back as well but not if it means losing Bruce Carter.

If he's willing to come for cheap, I'd consider it.

He seems like a great team guy. You need guys like that. He's the Dez of the defense. I was disappointed with his play later in the season and his health, but he's definitely a good guy to have on your team. He seems to want to stay in Dallas. Unless he demands a ridiculous amount of money, I think you bring him back. He's still young. You won't find a better guy than him in free agency or the draft. That being said, if it came down to him and Carter, I'd go Carter. Fortunately we don't have to worry about paying Hitchens. He's on a rookie deal for the next few years. Our most reliable LBer.

Him and Lee are not good to pencil in as starters. Unless you get him on a bargain deal let the guy walk.

How about a heavily laiden incentive based contract based on games played and performance ?

Went the way of Melton. Started strong and faded when it counted most.

Proceed accordingly.
