Realize this board is for discussion but while do we put up with junk. Posted Romo's comment re Thomas for serious discussion. Frankly, to knock a player cause he played on a team which went 1-15 shows a lack of brain power. If you wanted your comments valued you might have gone back to our game against Miami to see why Romo made his comments -- if you are a true Cowboy fan and want to see why we signed Thomas. Of course if you are fans of another team then your intelligence should be questioned on this board.

Anyway, I watched the whole Miami game. Thomas' name was called for more good plays in the first half alone then Ayodele's name was called for the entire 07 season. I was surprised by the scope of Thomas' talent.

Pass coverage - There were at least 2 plays where announcers pointed out Thomas' success in pass coverage (one play was at least 25+ yards down field) by knocking well thrown balls out of Witten's hands.

Tackles - Thomas was also cited for several tackles he made.

Blitzer - Thomas blitzed once but was unsuccessful. Want to point out that the announcers made the comment that MBIII was seeing a lot of action at one point cause he was good at picking up the blitz. They then shown the next play where Thomas blitzed but MBIII stopped him or else Romo would have been meat. BTW: For those so worried about our drafting McFadden, I'm not worried at all cause he's not going to happen. Why? It would eat up cap space we don't have and also frankly McFadden can't block. Is Jerry really dumb enough to let Adams walk and then trade/get rid of MBIII whose a very good picking up the blitz. Doubt Jerry wants McFadden so much he willing risk serious injury to Romo by leaving him w/o a RB who can pick up the blitz. And don't tell me Jerry is so stupid he acts before he thinks. Romo is the biggest thing Jerry has going in selling out his new stadium; that's what franchise QBs do. McFadden w/o Romo ain't going to sell out anything.

He's still the Tom Cruise of the Zone. Hiding behind the beautiful Dallas Cowboys, but always a dirty little secret lurking in the background.

To me this is right on the money. Everyone wanted to bag on RW but really our coverage from our LBers was mediocre to atrocious. Thomas turns that from a liability to a strength. If he only plays nickel downs then our defense just took perhaps its weakest link and made it a strength. How many times did we see our LBers making tackles after giving up 5 to 15 yard completion after completion. Thomas makes plays on the ball.

The real reason we went and got Zach Thomas

Listening to talkin Cowboys Mickey said when the Cowboys evaluated tape last year the saw somnething in Thomas that they didn't have here. A excellent coverage lber. In that game Jason Witten had 2 catches in that game. Tony Romo said this was the most difficult team to pass against because of the ability of Zach Thomas to run underneath patterns and get great depth that it eliminated what the Cowboys do with their TEs. Witten only had 2 passes in that game.

He was brought here more for his coverage skills. Romo threw for 186 yards his season low against Miami.

ZT is a excellent cover LB but he's also a tackling machine. It's a win win situation for us and we didn't even mention his work ethic and leadership skills...... The guy is a baller!!!!

So do we think Zack will be able to run with Jeremy Shockey, Chris Cooley, L.J. Smith, Kellen Winslow, Todd Heap, Heath Miller and other top TEs we will face next year?

The Dolphins held

Cooley 1 rec. 10 yards
Witten 2 rec 27 yards
Baker 1 rec 4 yards
Oaklands TEs caught no balls
Daniels caught 6 for 96 in the game Thomas was injured in.

Thomas is fantastic in coverage. There's no question about that.

Are you saying Oaklands got no balls?

on a side note. How come the windiest day of the week is always the day the recyclables go out?

I think it had more to do with Wade being unhappy with the production or lack of from Akin Ayodele. The weak inside spot should be getting the most tackles on the team and he was in the fifties and was a liability against the pass. Then he suspected that with Parcells in Miami that one of his favorite LBs who would be perfect for that position was going to be available so he jumped on Thomas like a fly on ****.

It's always windy here. And it never gets warm. So what do we do? Schedule trips to go farther north and go snowboarding. Look out Buffalo.

Also Oakland has no balls.

I don't doubt Thomas' coverage ability, his leadership and work ethic, but I am somewhat concerned that due to his age and the concussion issue, whether or not he'll be able to hold up through a 16 game season though.

If it wasn't for his car accident, the concussion would only have kept him from missing a game or two. They shut him down because of the accident, its not like he has a long history of concussions.
