Romo is pressing

I apologize ahead of time if this is a re-hash of another post.

I think Tony Romo IS sensitive to the super-criticism that he's been under the past season or so. He is not the same happy, go-for-it kind of player who took Dallas & the nation by storm in 2006 & 2007. As Aikman said yesterday, "Romo just does not look comfortable in the pocket".

Those two over-throws to Williams & Austin in a row in the second half showed me someone who is trying to guide the ball more than just letting it rip. The two slants to Hurd would have come much quicker two years ago. All it takes is just a millisecond of hesitation for a throw to be off.

I could always tell when Roger Staubach was pressing. He would over-throw the ball. Of course, he didn't do it for too long. That's why he's in Canton.

Don't get me wrong. I think Romo is still one of the most talented QBs in the NFL. That touch pass to Hurd was a thing of beauty. He just needs to stop listening to all of the so-called experts, (like me), and just go out & have fun. I just hope it's not too late.

Romo is definitely playing scared.
But I don't think the two examples (throws to Austin and Williams) are the right examples.
Williams was chucked downfield which caused him to not get to the spot Romo was expecting.
The pass to Austin looked on target to me, Austin was in the wrong spot. It should be impossible for Romo to throw that ball by him on the sidelines.

But I do think Romo is thinking way too much now.

NO doubt cogan: but he's choking too, I mean the Dallas media and spotlight are eating this guy ALIVE. I'd feel sorry for him but he makes way too much money to feel sorry for. He's circling the drain.......that's a fact.........

Good post coogan, I agree with you. I believe that the criticism is getting to him, he probably wish T.O. was still here, now he knows how T.O. feels.

I believe he will shake it, eventually, before we get into a hole, this is our usual December. We will finish the season on a roll into the playoffs.

watch all these bashers, become lovers and believers again, it will be hilarious

Those aren't the two throws I was talking about. The one to Williams was the one where he almost had his sternum crushed after coming down from trying to sky for the ball. The one to Austin was the next throw near the sidelines that wasn't even close once again. I had no problem with the Int. as far as Romo goes.

Romo is struggling, there is no doubt about that.Whether the cause of his struggles are his mechanics or are caused by tentative play the result is the same.I hope that Romo can put it back together, but I admit he has me wondering about his abilities.I still think that Romo has to get over the hump this year or you have to start comparing him the Rex Grossman.

I am uploading the hurd postgame interview and babe laufenbergs thoughts on this game and this team right now.

Basically what he said about romo is what you are saying. He is pressing, for many reasons.

At some point Romo will have to get past everything that is in his head and just let it rip. All the mechanics he has been working on will become 2nd nature. Really not that much different in golf when rebuilding your swing and thinking your way through it. At someone you have to trust it and let it rip.

Listening to his post game comments it seems clear Romo is afraid to make mistakes and it has him second guessing every throw he makes. He needs to just go out and fire, let him be Romo.

Point i'm trying to make is that Romo needs to show what he's made of this year, can he get it done or is he a flash in the pan.I do believe that if he can't put it together this year you have to start ot wonder about his abilities as a quarterback .I hope he puts it together, but i'm really starting to wonder if he has the mentality to play in this league.

Romo is plain stinking up the joint. He gagged on a pitchfork at the Cowboy home opener. His stupidity during that game is haunting him right now. Romo, and only Romo, can overcome that. His confidence is shot because he played like such an idiot at the Cowboy opener, another bigtime choke to add to his resume.

This has been my concern. We've heard forever that all this guy had to do was cut down on the TOs. I feared that he may have his ability hinderd.

Agreed he needed to keep two hands on the ball. Agreed that he needed to make better decisions in "some" spots.
Take shots, but just be a little more judicious. Don't take shots on 1s down when we have a drive going and momentum. Take shots on third down to keep the sticks moving.

Throwing Ints 15-30 yards downfield on 3rd and 13 isn't so bad. Especially when more times than not you're converting. And the int only comes on 1 in 10 of those situations.

The kids said it a hundred times before when explaining some of his throws that look more risky than they were. "You can't win without making plays".

SO GO OUT THERE AND MAKE SOME FREAKING PLAYS!

The first thing I do if I'm the coach is start sitting any veteran receivers that don't know their routes. Romo is stuggling enough with his own game as it is. He doesn't need guys in the game like Austin and Bennett who have no clue what route they are running or where to lineup presnap. I'd start using my entire roster until I can find a couple players that no where they are supposed to be at all times. I'm sick and tired of professionals not knowing their jobs. We need to do what Tomlin did with Mendenhall and start sitting people who don't understand what being a professional is all about. I don't care how fast you are or how big of an athletic freak you seem to be. If you don't know what you are supposed to be doing you can't be on the field ... period.

I'm not saying get rid or cut people like every 3rd person on here wants to do every time someone makes a mistake, give them more opportunities later on after you see if the view from the bench teaches them anything. Just give me more accountability please. You have got to give Romo the best chance to succeed because right now things just aren't clicking between he and his receivers.

I'm starting to wonder how complex Garrett's system is to pick up and if we need to scale down the offense a bit too. There sure does seem to be a lot of people still trying to figure out where they are supposed to be presnap and then what their routes are after the snap. I wanna see more actual playing and less confusion. It seems like people are thinking too much out there. I'm not talking about a bunch of rookies who don't know their assignments either these are vets who should know what's going on by now for Christ's sake.

All I know for sure is it's damned frustrating to watch.

You have some valid points.

The route thing has me wondering a little and this was brought up in another post.I wonder if all the blame goes to the receivers for the busted routes,it just seems that Romo isn't seeing the field very well at this time. Not saying that the bulk of busted routes are on Romo, just trying to look at this dog and pony show from a different perspective.
