Romo is secured, now, wha about Flo?

Do we keep him? It'll cost us to keep him, but neither of the rookies has gotten enough work, in my opinion, to throw them into the fire. I mean watching Tony Ugoh play LT for the Colts in his rookie year kind of makes me want to see Doug Free out there. Is he still injured?

The emergence of McQ? I don't think the world is ready.

if we can equal flo without the penalties then i would choose that option...if not...keep him if he does not break the bank.

Flo must go. He has stopped more drives for us the last 2 years than opposing defenses. Ugh! I hate all his false starts. :bang2:

Share your concern re Free as our starting LT in 08. Protecting Tony Romo's blind side is a must & cap money is a minor concern in that situation. On the other hand, the Cowboys really like what they saw in Free (projected late
2nd rounder who fell to 4th round because of injured foot) & gotta admit that Flo's many false starts and holding calls stop so many of our drives.

Flozel does a great job of protecting Romo but it is upsetting to see so many penalties on him which have considerably slowed down our offense. Just don't understand why it continues to happen. Fully realize he has a hearing problem in one year but sometimes he gets penalties when the play is almost over and not even coming his way.

Don't count out Mcq. Sparano is high on him as well. I think it could be a real battle for LT.

At the beginning of the season, when there was so much optimism that the Browns pick would be a top 5, I wanted to use that pick on Jake Long. This scenario seems unlikely now, but it should still be a pretty deep draft for olinemen and I think a very good one could still slip to us somewhere in the middle of the first. I'm not saying we should draft an olinemen, but it's something we should consider, if say maybe the likes of a Baker falls to us.

With Ware looking at a Dwight Freeney like payday, there's a chance we won't have the $10 mil a year to secure Flo's services.

It may just be time to move on.

Worst case, can't we just franchise tag or transition tag Flo for 1 more year?

That gives Free 1 more year to get prepared, or if the staff prefers, we draft one more OT and let him challenge Free/McQ.

I agree up to a point. Without seeing how McQ and Free are currently doing I can't say for sure if replacing Flo is the right thing to do. My hope is one of them shows the ability to take that job but I have nothing recent to go on.

I say extend Flo. McQ/Free scare me.

i'm fine with resigning flo if the price is right.

however, if it forces young talent off the roster, we might better pass.

i think his contract demands will be outrageous

we'll see

I say keep Flo until he can't go anymore. He is a borderline pro-bowl caliber left tackle and they definitely don't grow on trees. Besides, what are the chances of upgrading a position where you have a probowler with someone better? It's not impossible but chances are slim. If the guys behind Flo on the depth chart are worth grooming and show the "potential" to be better than that is all you can ask for.

Saying you expect a second day pick to be better has a slim chance of being a correct statement. History bears that out.

I'm hoping that we get to see what McQ has to offer, but as long as Flo does not demand too much money, keep him around until we see what we have in McQ. As far as keeping players, I'm curious to see what we're going to do with Barber, I imagine he'll have some significant offers from other teams should he hit the market.

We don't know how far along McQ and or Free is right now. I don't want to get rid of Flo if they can't do the job but I'm sure the coaches who see these guys day in and day out know where they are in their development.

Mr. Jones will have some tough choices at the end of this season, no doubt. He's got to keep Newman and Barber, for sure. If we can't afford Adams after that, then we can't afford Adams, simple as that. I wouldn't mind seeing Flo out there for another year or two, but at some point, you have to find his replacement.

I haven't really broken down any of his performances this year, but I think Colombo might get a shot at the job next year. He was originally a LT, and if his knees hold up, he isn't too much of a drop-off from Flozell. He seems to have gotten his penalties under control this year, at least. Then McQ or Free or maybe even Marten could come in, and they wouldn't be on Romo's blind side.

I don't think there is any question that Flo is gone. It's about money and you have to have turnover to free up money to keep younger talent. Free has shown the ability to pass protect, but was very weak in run blocking. From what I've heard McQuistan is the most complete of the three tackles. (Marten who can run block, but has pass protecting issues)

I think the idea solution is to have Free replace Flo and keep working with McQuistan to either replace Kosier or Colombo in the future if they are unable to resign Colombo. Of course, Free has to dramatically improve his run blocking, or he will never make the transition.
