As excited as I am for the teams future, part of me hates this day. I know nothing lasts forever but it just blows my mind this day has already arrived. Where does the time go? I know not everybody will agree with me, and that's fine, but it was a pleasure watching Romo lead this team over the last decade. I sincerely wish him the best from here on out. He deserves success.

he doesnt take the risks Romo did. If its not there hes not going to wait arund to be hit, hes going to run. Theres a reason he was one of the least sacked guys in hte nfl
How does he not get hit when he runs the read option?

if you watch Dak run, hes either hitting the corner and going out of bounds before getting hit, sliding before getting hit, or at the GL and walking into the endzone. Like i said he doesnt get hit much.

There are articles about him hoping and expecting to be released, wanting to complete for a starting job, wanting to go to the Texans, wanting to go to the Broncos, and now willing to restructure his deal to facilitate a trade. What I have yet to see is one single mention of him willing to stay and be the backup. Anywhere. In any article.

He said in his speech he believes he can and still wants to play. Every indication anywhere for months corroborates this. I don't get how some people still hold on to the notion that he would be willing or want to stay and be a backup.

It will be a sad day (imo) when he leaves. However it is what he clearly wants. We have our QB in Dak. Forcing Romo to stay and back him up would be bad for this team on more levels than it can help (his attitude towards being forced to backup Dak, Dak looking over his shoulder, Jerry blabbing stupid stuff, etc.). It sucks, but it is what it is, let him go try and win his own Superbowl. But get what you can for him in a trade (if you can) rather than letting him walk for nothing.

All of the articles are pretty much bs at this point. What they ought to do is keep Romo and let him start because he is better than Dak. That is all they have to do. If Dak doesn't like it, then beat him out. I'm pretty sure that Romo's play would be excellent. As a fan, I would love see Romo play with Elliott.

? dak extension not coming for years...
I could see DAL offering him an extension after next year

It would be 5/60m but it would be 100% guaranteed with 34m paid by Spring of 2020

It would be hard to turn down 60m for a 4th round draft pick

Year................Base............Cap Hit
2018...............630k.............0.6m
2019................5m ..............8m....................15m signing bonus
2020...............14m(restr)....6.6m
2021...............5m................10.6m
2022...............6m................14.6m...............deal will be re-done turning 2023-24 salaries into 15m SB
2023.............. 15m..............23.6m...................new deal is 5/100m thru 2027
2024...............25m..............30.6m
2025...............20m..............23m
2026...............20m..............23m
2027...............20m..............20m

Feel free to keep daydreaming about Romo starting but the reality is that the FO and staff has committed themselves to starting Dak and that's not going to change. I'm sure the FO is fully aware that Tony's durability isn't what it once was, even if some of us are in denial of that fact. He's 37 years old with a tricky back, for Pete's sake. You might as well get used to seeing Dak as the starter. Simply put, it's what's in store for the foreseeable future. The Dallas FO hasn't exactly beat around the bush in making their intentions clear in that regard.

You can't offer an extension on a rookie deal until the 4th year, I believe.

Yep. Tony will be released. He is completely finished in Dallas. In fact, for his own well being, he needs to retire. The future is not what it used to be! Sadly.
