Yeah and free throws In the first quarter of a game is the same as free throws with 1 second left in the game and down by 2 or a field goal to put the team up 3-0 on the first drive is the same as being down 28-27 with 1 second left in the fourth. Same pressure, I get ya.
I know that wasn't for me but I'll chime in some.
I think stationary stuff where you sit there and have time to think--like putting on the 18th, free throws with one second, FGs with time running out...those are much more game-time sensitive.
Active things like hitting a jump shot, chasing down a volley in tennis, passing or catching a football during an active play....probably not so much. Maybe a tiny bit if at all.
Assuming you've played sports, you'll probably know that when you are in the heat of a game (not sitting still thinking about every detail, but in the real heat of it) you don't stop and stress out about whether or not this is a TV game or win or go home game. It just doesn't work that way.
ALL athletes will tell you this. In the heat of battle, you don't stop and think about that stuff.
But yes, a FG, free throw, or final putt...that would be different.
I do think if you know you have to do something to win the game you may step out of character sometimes and take risks that maybe should not be taking....at least sometimes.
And I do think Romo is guilty of trying to do to much sometimes....usually because he feels if the risk is not taken then we lose the game. Those choices are not always the right ones though.
And, not that you said it, but that it far, FAR from "choking". Not at all the same.
Hey, last year even Brady had three picks in the final minutes of the 4th qtr , with two ending in losses. He was pressing and trying to get something done, not choking.
Or maybe sometimes, the defender actually makes a great play. Again it's not a free throw or a put; there is a defense out there.
If we watch very game of every QB, I think you'll be surprised at how often wild things happen when a team is pressing to pull out a win.
