Actually based on what TWill said about innovating on his route, and how close Witten was to the reception, and the conversation on the sidelines, I'd say it's quite possible the play was an accident.

SMH at the utter ....

They were talking about that play on the Herd a bit ago. They had extremely high praise for Romo.

They should . I don't know of any other QB who could avoid the rush, throw off balance and still get it to the receiver in bounds. I think Tony's basketball skills really come into play on those types of situations.

He looks like he is making a cut, pivot, and launches to a spot. Very similar to a good BB player

A lot of progression toward being a NFL receiver in a short time from a guy from a offensive scheme in Baylor that didn't even have a route tree............the learning curve is impressive.

I think its time we start to give some credit to the new receivers coach, and yes to JG for bringing him, and the other new coaches on board.

Delete the thread, I was not doing this for attention or to undermine any of the team's performance, I overanalyzed a play.

Glad you posted it. It gave us another chance to offer perspectives on a developing star, and another fantastic play by Tony R

Noway that pass was intended for Witten, I don't understand how anyone who watched the game or that play can conclude it was intended for Witten.
I think the original route would have been for Witten but the pocket broke down and TWILL improvised moving to open space. In addition, if you look at it if ROMO throws that ball to Witten given where the CB guarding TWILL, in my opinion the CB possibly picks the ball off. Great play by TWILL and ROMO.

I admitted I was wrong, based it off of an angle I saw that was not shown during the game and was not my first thought. I am not a Romo hater and admitted I was wrong, what more do you want from me?

No problem
It's cool
I get a little punchy on the topic...we're all on the same team here.

You haters will grasp at anything, no matter how ridiculous it is.

How is this not a legitimate assumption? Romo had been fairly inaccurate all game, and Witten was within 5 yards of Williams.

Also, Williams said that wasn't his original route.

Don't let the sunshine blind ya.

It looks like Witten was slanting towards the pylon a bit. I'm torn on it. I could see it both ways but I think Romo was laughing because he had just seen Twill breaking to the back corner of the end zone so it was a safe throw. I don't think he was telling him I meant to throw it to Witten

Yeah i agree. I have no idea who Romo was actually throwing to. But the Romo defenders act like it is out of the realm of possibility that he was throwing the ball to witten.

Yep, I thought it looked like he was throwing it away to. Guess he pulled a little Romo Magic (luck) out of the hat and with a great catch by TWILL they both became hero's for the day......In the end, it doesn't matter... if it was luck, magic or a gift, it ended up a great throw and great catch for 6pts. Thats all that matters...LOL

If you look at the replay Witten really speeded up when the ball was in the air, then slowed when he saw Williams. Just a nice improvised play by Romo and WIlliams. Dont know if he was throwing ball away or not but it was a great play.

That ball was thrown where only Williams could come down with it. Don't think it was meant for Witten.

Furthermore, why do some people think that if it were meant for Witten instead of Williams, that somehow Romo therefore deserves less credit for the play?

Yeah, it's not like Williams stepped in front of Witten and caught it. If he had stepped in front of Witten, he wouldn't have been anywhere near the ball.

Its not that complicated, is it?

Romo escaped, saw T Williams running toward back pylon, threw ball. Touchdown.

Was it drawn up that way? No. Its just two guys on the same wavelength. Good stuff.

Romo put that ball where ONLY TWill could get it, and the kid did his best Fred Astaire impression and came through...fantastic
