Tony Romo will not be the Dallas Cowboys' holder in 2010, according to special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis.

Romo took over the job midway through the season, after Nick Folk's struggles were attributed, at least in part, to the performance of first year holder and Pro Bowl punter, Mat McBriar. In an incontrovertible show of leadership, Romo stepped into the role out of necessity.

Obviously, McBriar was only a small part of the problem, and Folk was eventually cut; at any rate, Romo held the job through the end of the season.

But with an entire off-season to sort it out, coaches will look to settle the issue in a manner that would allow the Pro Bowl quarterback to concentrate solely on, you know, quarterbacking. This idea was at the heart of DeCamillis's recent remarks, per ESPNDallas.com.

"Tony did a nice job when he came in,” said DeCamillis. “We want to get that situation handled as much as possible. We like for [Romo] not to be the holder."

That's good. Maybe McBriar can go back to doing it since it wasn't his fault afterall.

Good news. Kudos to him for helping out but he does not need to be doing that job as a starter.

shipley, he does it in college, and we could throw in a fake once in a while, running, and he can throw.

I honestly couldn't care less about who the holder is. If Romo hadn't had that ball slip from his hands in 06, I don't think this would be nearly as big a deal as it is. As long as they don't screw up who cares? If you have a good long snapper, and laddy seems to be a good one, I don't think it's that hard.

Blaming McBriar for Folk's problems last year was the low point of the season for this franchise. Everyone believed it and it was an excuse the entire time. :(

We wouldn't want to dishonor a proven veteran like kitna and relegate him to mop up or holding duties. Lets have our starter do that....

Get Stephen McGee to start holding. He may not beat out Kitna this year, but it'll prime him for Year Three when he should be the backup quarterback by then.

He's never done it before. Do you really want someone who's never held on kicks out there?

Romo should never have been put in that position anyways.... Folk shouldn't have blamed his holder and the coaches should have never bought that poor excuse.

Wade, Jerry, two-thirds of this board and McBriar himself (although he was probably just trying to keep his BFF from losing a job).

I don't think Wade or Jerry believed it. They were giving the guy an out hoping it would prevent him from getting down on himself. Didn't work.

As far as the board goes, I don't know how many did believe it but I didn't.
